HELP!!!! Laptop died. How do I transfer Windows Mail to my new laptop?

I'm in a complete PANIC right now because this is my work computer and I don't know how to get my email now.

Here's the deal: My old laptop died. Deader than dead. Won't even boot. I'm on another laptop now and I need to know how I can set up another windows mail account and, most importantly, transfer all of my email, contacts, etc. from my old windows mail.

Please help! I can't lose my emails and contacts!!!!

I had my old computer backed up with carbonite.com and I **think** my mail should've been back up. I hope so. If not, am I screwed? I'm lost. Somebody help please.

If you used Windows Mail, it is just a matter of setting that up on your work computer, which mail provider did you have set as default mail handler ?
For example, i use Windows Mail, but, i have comcast.net set as my default mail, so, i can go to Tools, accounts, and go through those tabs after the default mail is selected. So, without putting your whole email here, what comes after the @ in your email address, mine is @comcast.net.

Yard Dog,

I appreciate your reply but you have completely lost me. I'm not very tech savvy so you have to talk to me like a 4 year old or it will go right over my head.

Here's what I can tell you:

I get my work email from the company that hosts my website (citymax.com). My webmail is set up through them and I had that email routed to Windows mail so I didn't have to log into my webmail every time. I did all my work email through windows mail so all of my contacts, emails, folders, etc. are there.

The problem is I don't know how to get it back!!!!

My main computer (let's call it Computer #1) is dead. I'm now on a backup laptop (let's call that computer #2.) Computer #2 does not have ANYTHING set up yet as that was just a backup and I never used it.

My question is this: Is there a way for me to access the same windows mail account that I had on computer #1? I was using carbonite.com as a backup service for my files but I'm not sure if my windows mail was backed up or not--I suspect not.

I AM IN FULL-BLOWN PANIC MODE HERE. Please help, somebody!!!

If I can't get my emails, folders and contacts back from my mail account, I am royally screwed!

Welcome
Listen, this is what you do
Go to this site and download Windows live mail, from the site
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-mail
Be careful, they try to give you a lot more
There will be one page where they ask what you want, but everythign is already checked, just tick lite mail
Then go to the back up and tranfer the mail to a finger drive or if you can go to the new Windows LIve mail, Go to the message icon, upper left and then import and import from the back up
If you must use the finger dirve
Then go to the new live mail and go to the message icon and then import. You import from the finger drive

Changing the settings will not get your mail back unless you are SMPT, but most likely you are POP3. Dont worry if you dont understand this, just try my suggestion

You said "changing the settings will not get your email back unless you are SMPT"

Can you please explain this to me? I HAVE TO HAVE my email back or it will severely damage my business.

Also, I don't know what a 'finger drive' is, can you please explain? Thank you.

Forget SMPT, even if you have it, just means that the mail is still on the email server. I assume that it is not, so forge that
Finger drive, thumb drive, usb drive. A small device that can be used for back up. You can also use an external hard drive.
Dont worry, with your back up, Im sure we will get your mail back

I don't understand why I need a thumb drive. I'm not transferring the information from one computer to another.

My first computer is DEAD. I can't get my mail info from that.
I'm just wanting to know how I can get my windows mail and contacts, etc. without my computer that they were on.

I can just tell you what I know, even though there may be other methods. I as suggesting, that on the new computer you install Windows Live Mail. Windows mail, under the message icon on the upper left has import and export. You want to import. If your backup lets you import, fine just go for it. I dont know if the back up allows that. If if does not you have to transfer to another medium (finger drive) put it into the new computer and then go to import as mentioned. There may be other methods, but thats what I would do if it were my mail.

Hello again, i see there are still issues, i have been away taking care of business and i will offer additional info. to what has been given to you already.
My thinking is bout same as Rich, make sure you have windows mail , then get the port settings from that website who originally set you up, You may have to use an alternate email such as gmail or yahoo mail to establish some sort of contact.
Identify who you are to your Webmaster and get them to give you the info needed to reset your email on Windows Mail on the new computer.
Post back results please .

The only thing that will do is get new mail. He has to get the mail exported from the back up
