Slow windows mail

my windows mail in Vista has become extremly slow, especially when using reply or creating new mail. It takes an abnormal amount of time for the screen to come up. Also slow when opening and frequently it stops in the middle of viewing e-mails and states "windows mail not reponding" I keep my folders up to date and I have turned off my Norton email scanning. It is much worse since ie9 installed this week which I hate!

Welcome Linda,
With the advent of new software and other improvements, it is suggested that you
make sure:
Vista has all the SPs and updates
That you have the most current windows mail, Windows Mail Live 2011
Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes
Send an email to you email provider to be sure that the slow down is not at their end.

Windows Live Essentials: Other Programs - Get started
If you type windows mail in search, when it comes up right click and then properties, you should be able to tell.
If that does not work, look at the download date and report back.
It can be installed free from their web site.

I don't have windows live mail - I have windows mail. I am afraid the two programs are different and if I download windows live mail all my setting will change again. I had to talk to Earthlink two weeks ago and he had me change my smpt (i think that was it) location which had somehow changed. Maybe this is wrong. I was tring to find out how to leave mail on my server longer so when I used Web mail it was still there. I probably shod also check with earthlink? I checked and I do not have Windows Live Mail, just windows mail 2009

As you know if something can go wrong it will BUT for me and according to the information from Microsoft, settings, email and all else should be saved.
I would back up important mail and we can help with the settings.
If you go to your account, you can check leave mail on server.

Thanks! I think I'll stick with Windows mail. My ISP is Earthlink and it is their mail that comes through windows mail. If I set up Windows live Mail it will be another e-mail account and I really don't want two. I realize I could my Mail Live my default and start using it but I"m not quite ready.. I'll see if the slowness gets any worse.
