Copy & Paste Issues In Windows Mail

It seems for a long time I had been able to retain formatting used in one email when copying the message to a new/duplicate email (i.e. the bold type and underlining would carry over).

For some unknown reason when I copy and paste emails now the formatting (bold type and underlining) no longer carries over although everything else from the original email pastes perfectly identical to the original.

I am using Vista Home Premium.

Any suggestions or settings I need to tweak in order to preserve the formatting when I copy and paste from email 1 to email 2?

Thanks.

Welcome to our Forum
Reading your email, I have to assume that you are not using the most current, Windows Live Mail 2011.
If I am correct, go to Windows Live Essenatils and download Windows Live Mail 2011. I am pretty sure that your problem will be resolved.
Windows Live Essentials: Other Programs

Log into your current mail and then go to file, export to a folder any mail you want to save. It should save automatically, but if important dont take a chance

Hi Richard --

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am using Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 -- I believe I had some issues when trying to install SP2 so I never completed the installation.

Is there an alternative to installing Windows Live Essentials (which I believe requires SP2)?

And if I do end up making an upgrade do I need to do anything to preserve my current emails -- I have several dozen different folders that contain, in total, several thousand emails?

As I mentioned obliquely in my initial post, I had been having no problems in pasting content from one email to a new one with formatting intact and then, one day, the formatting did not transfer over. I don't recall changing any settings but perhaps it might have been the result of some Windows Update that I have scheduled to automatically run during the overnight hours?

Thanks.

Thanks Richard. I was able to install SP2 without difficulty and here is a new twist to my issue.

Once the PC was restarted after SP2 was installed I launched Windows Mail and tried to cut and paste from one of the repetitive emails I send on a daily basis. Turns out the formatting was left intact (bold type and underline) and it appeared my issue had been somehow resolved.

HOWEVER

Upon returning to my PC this morning there had apparently some update(s) installed overnight as I was presented with the log in screen (indicative of an automatic restart as I had left some the PC on overnight). It seems at least one of the activities that had occurred was the installation of Internet Explorer 9 (I had been using IE8 and did not take any steps to upgrade to IE9 -- perhaps it was related to the SP2 installation but I was not prompted for such an upgrade nor notified that any would occur). No problem as IE9 seems perfectly suitable.

BUT

When I opened Windows Mail and tried the cut and paste operation the formatting WAS NOT carried over into the new message.

Any exlanation as to what may have happened -- either with the initial success or the subsequent failure?

And any thoughts on how to resolve?

Again, thanks for your input and assistance.

Anyone know why, given the above, boldface/score attributes do not carry over in copy and paste function when copying from old email to a new one?

Thanks.
