In the last few days i have been getting adware tracking cookies on my computer
What are they, are they dangerous, why do i keep getting them and can i stop this
from happening.

Most cookies are benign in nature and not a cause for concern. You will find that every session of browsing will ultimately lead to some cookies being placed on your computer.

However, if you wish to get rid of these there are many programs that will delete them for you. I personally use this:-

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

Select the Free Edition, install and then run the program.

Alternatively, depending on your browser, you can select the option to delete all cookies when your internet session is over and you close the browser.
