This is Vista's(home basic SP2 IE7) Window mail, not windows live. Please don't tell me to dnld IE8, I tried it don't like it. That should have nothing to do with WM anyway.

Not sure exactly what day it was, but its been going on 4-5 days now.

I have never had this problem before now. When I am done checking/sending emails and I click X(close). Normally WM closes immediately, in the past 4-5 days after clicking close it stall for a few seconds, then up in the left corner where it says Inbox-Windows Mail, "(Not Responding)" is added. Then a few seconds later WM closes. I assume what every program is used to close WM, that's the problem. WM is the only page this happens with, web pages, spreadsheets, notebook, etc. all close ok.

Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but sometime Monday web pages stops being saved in my history. So I did a system restore back to last Sunday and WM still stalls then goes not responding before it closes.

Other things I have done.
I have ran error checking tool, did help.
Check defragmenter says it doesn't need to be ran.
Ran full VP scan, no help

Surely the problem can't be coming from the VP I switched to about a month ago. Bitdefender is supposed to be top of the line.

Now around a week ago I did run disc cleanup and deleted some files, surely that didn't cause the problem.

Hi charly1954,

In addition, you can try system restore, this started happening from past 4-5 days and check if it works, please use the following link for detailed instructions: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

NOTE: With system restore you will not lose any data from the computer, any new programs installed in the computer you would need to reinstall the programs on the computer.

Please post the results.

Hello Charly, and welcome to Vista Forums.

In addition, Windows Mail has always had issues like this cause by any type of "email scanning" feature included in 3rd party AV programs. If you have one installed that has that feature, then disable that feature as a test to see if that may help.

You might also check the items in the tutorial below to see if it may help.

Hope this helps, :)
