Solved Chrome Shortcut Icon Disfunction

Just got an update for Chrome and the shortcut icon is no longer the Chrome icon but like an old windows file icon. When I create a new shortcut within the Chrome folder the icon is fine; when I move it, or just send one, to the desktop it loses it's picture. When I create or send a shortcut icon for Old_Chrome there's no problem. Tried F5.

Thanks.

Hello VFN,

Are you creating the shortcut directly from the chrome.exe file?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

Hope this may help, :)

No, from here: C:\Users\-\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

I don't have that folder you're referring to.

I resolved it by using "change icon" in the shortcut properties. I had to change it to another icon before the original Chrome icon would materialize.

Any idea why Chrome didn't install to the Programs folder? I believe I downloaded through the Google page and followed the installation instructions.

And I've had no problems like this with other updates so why would the folder location matter. In fact, why would the folder location matter in any instance?

Update: From what I've searched for Vista, Chrome installs to where my folder is.

I should also add that the update was not a clean event. I was using Chrome in incognito mode and checked for an update. Chrome found one but the progress indicator was stalled at 0%. I closed the browser and reopened not in incognito and the update was successful. So perhaps there was a glitch in the update.

I guess there may have been some glitch somewhere, but glad you got it sorted. :)
