Hi Folks,

All of a sudden I cannot print out an e-mail in Windows Mail (Vista 32) ....this happened after an auto windows update.

I click print from the file menu and the screen freezes and I have to log off, it also at that time says the screen e-mail that is frozen is saved to the drafts folder.

Anyone know what is happening?

Thanks

Hello and Thanks for responding,

I did a system restore and still cannot print any e-mail.

I also made sure the printer was set to the correct default printer and I tested the printer communication by printing a word document and that printed fine.

This is a new problem and I don't know why this is happening.

I need to be able to print from e-mail ..........for example an airline e-ticket for business travel etc.........I have to get this fixed.

Also how do I shut off automatic window updates?

Thanks for any help

I am still unable to print from Windows mail as described. My defaults are set correctly. I am able to print from the internet from Firefox which is the browser I use.... but unable to print from Windows mail (Vista 32) as described in my first post. I need to print out important e-mails frequently and cannot.

Please can anyone help?

I looked back at the Vista updates from 3/13 to present. Most of them (for me) are Microsoft Security Essentials which shouldn't affect Windows Mail. There was also a Silverlight update which probably affects .net framework. The other was a junk-mail filter for Office 2007. The only keyword here is e-mail.

Since you did a system restore, I wouldn't think the problem would be caused by an update. If it's a .net framework issue, you can always do a repair on .net framework.

RichC46 usually recommends doing a full system scan with anti-virus and, also, malwarebytes.

All scans are up to date Superantispyware, Malwarebytes. and mcafee.

I'm sorry I don't know what a repair on the .net framework is.

Its only mail that will not print I can print from the internet in firefox.

Welcome
Create a system restore point, uninstall Live Mail.
Then install the most current version
If it works, Im glad
If it does not work, you can keep it or put the old one back with System Restore. Personally, I would keep the most current.

Richard- I hope you're doing well this morning.

The fixes I've seen for Windows Mail was to install Windows Live Mail. Based on your comment, I looked at my programs and- surprise!- Windows Live Mail is installed along with Windows Mail. I tested Windows Mail last night and didn't have a problem with the printer. That doesn't mean he shouldn't try your advice.

It would be interesting to know what automatic updates were done on danii's system in the last week.

Danii- If you go to the Control Panel\Programs and Featues, you will probably find numerous installations of Microsoft .net framework. If you have Microsoft .net framework 4 client, click on it as to uninstall it. Two options will come up. Click on Repair and then reboot. You should also have .net framework 3.5 SP1. You can do the same thing with it.

By the way, the junk-email update I had was to Windows 2007 Outlook. I didn't say "Outlook" above.

I'd also like to know what happens if you try to access the print function using Control P.

TY for the comments, and yes, things are fine. Sometimes, software will work on one computer and not on another. Sometimes, its due to coflicts with other software. It is my thinking, that if the poster has the most up to date Live Mail, at least we could rule that out. My next test would be to try with a clean boot, but not there yet.

Thanks for your time BTW...............Ok here goes I do not have windows live mail on my computer I have windows mail only. I also do not have .net framework 4 client.
I do have .net framework 3.5 and went to that and clicked repair then rebooted and still have the same problem. I also tried printing from the ctr P and that did the same thing it froze the mail screen I was attempting to print. As of the morning all my windos updates for Vista are up to date...........the only other thing I can add is that my McAfee is coming up as a white-screen when I click that icon (even though the McAfee is still working) I don't know if that gives a clue.

I have 4 years of e-mails on 3 user IDs on this machine and do not want to lose them by installing live mail. I am not completely tech savvy by any means.

Also for some reason even though windows updates and says my firewall is on....it also says my security center is turned off and when I go to turn it on it says it can't be turned on.

Are all my updates from this morning moot because I did the restore repair on the net framework 3.5 client?

My Computer

you need to update to the most current version of your mail client.
The mail should not be lost, but can't guarantee anything.

I just fixed the mcAfee white-screen that problem so that is moot. I need to check richc with someone that can verify that I will not lose the mail. It is business mail and I simply can't take a chance.

Also windows live mail, which is on another persons computer in my house is markedly different from my pov than my older windows mail. There seems to be some kind of learning curve going from mail to live mail.

In any case can anyone show me how to upgrade without losing 4 years of e-mails?

or where on my computer is the folder I could burn to dvd containing all of my mail (every folder I would need) that could be saved and opened in the future.

Thanks

My Computer

repairing .net framework will not affect the updates.

I don't have windows mail on this computer so I can't investigate the location of the files until tomorrow.

After doing some snooping, I think your Windows Mail messages are located here-
