Pictures won't come through

Lottiemansion just helped me with a problem so I am reaching back out to you -- or anyone who can help.

My cousin always sends me emails with wonderful pictures of people, places and things. I forward them on and so many enjoy them so much.

Suddenly, I get the message that the pictures can't be found and won't be there if I forward. Can anyone tell me why all of his emails are this way?

He says he hasn't changed anything and I know I haven't. I used Windows Live Mail and he uses AOL, as he always has.

He keeps insisting it's something on my end but to my knowledge, I'm not having this same problem with anyone else.

I am attaching screenshot of the window that pops up when I click "send."

Hi

I suppose the first question is "Are you getting all the photos he sends?"

Also, ask for them to be sent as a zip file in a second message to confirm.

Check this first & come back to us.

I'm not sure I understand. He's not sending me his own personal photos. These are forwards; pages with photos of beautiful scenery, or cute animals, or old cars, etc. He tells me that he never just forwards things. He says he copies and pastes the whole page. I never had any trouble with being able to forward these on to others until recently. I no longer bother trying because the pics aren't going to come through on my forward. He just sent me a forward titled "things you've probably never seen before" and when I opened it, there were pictures of various unusual things, like "the most beautiful horse in the world."

These all came through to me just fine, but when I clicked forward I got the message I showed you in my screenshot.

OK I see.

If it is alright?

I'll message you my email account & then you "both" can send me the same message, so I can work it out.

Is that OK?

I am overseas this weekend, so I will NOT message you until I get back & the OK from you.

I have forwarded to you 2 emails with pictures which my cousin sent me. He has also sent you one of those emails directly.

Now I discover I have a larger problem.

I have an extensive storage folder containing information that is important to me. I went to open an email this morning which I had saved regarding a purchase I made on a nebulizer that is not working correctly. I got the window which I am attaching by screenshot. (I see my screenshot did not attach. The window I get says "A problem occurred while trying to open this message. A problem occurred. Please try again."

Since I found this puzzling I started trying to open other emails in other folders in the "Storage Folder" section and I'm getting the same thing for every single email. Whatever caused this, it isn't affecting the emails in any of the folders I have set up within my "Inbox" area; it doesn't affect Drafts, Sent, Deleted, Junk, or a few other folders I added under my actual account -- only all the folders in the "Storage Folder" area. I am praying that you can tell me there is a way to fix this problem.

I did find this when Googling and was wondering if I should try it. I don't want to make things worse.
Follow these steps:
1) Click Start (the Windows Orb on the bottom left corner of your desktop)
2) Click Control Panel
3) Click Programs
4) Click Programs and Features
5) Browse and double click to select Windows Live Essentials
6) Click Repair all Windows Live programs.

P.S. I tried the above and it did not work. In fact, I've now found more problems.

First, on 2-27-15 I had copied my email store folder to my external drive, thank heavens! From that copy I can open all the emails in the folders.

In attempting to make a new copy of my store folder, I discover that most of the folders in my "Storage Folders" are gone. They all still appear in the email account, but I can't open the emails stored in them. Again, I do have them in the 2-27 copy on the external, but nearly all folders are gone in the store folder on my hard drive.

Looks to me like somehow the whole darned program went corrupt and I wonder if it has anything to do with a Windows Update???

In order to keep this problem from going further, can I uninstall WLM 2011, then reinstall it and import my folders from the copy on my external HD and also import the copy of my contacts I have there?

Hi,

I got the messages & as stated, your forwarded message came in a text format not HTML as expected. I know we covered this off but needed to add it to the forum postings.

Now, what you are asking for above is possible provided they are working back-up copies. The new problem might be because of the "Repair"?

So, uninstall, then reboot & finally re-install.

You will then need to add your storage folder/ file. That should get you up & running again.

When I sent you one of the emails, I forgot to send the screenshot of my settings. I am a going to try and attach it here.mail.PNG Doesn't this show that I have HTML selected for my emails? And if that is the case then why are they coming through on your end as text?

You referred to "working back-up copies." The copy I have was on my external and so should not have been affected by the Repair.

But now I'm wondering about a more simple solution.
Can I go into C:\Users\My Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and delete the "Storage Folders" folder -- then place the "Storage Folders" folder from my backup (or a copy of it) in there and will these folders and all the emails they contain then be replaced in my actual WLM email program?

Hi,

I'm not sure about that as am option. So I wouldn't be able to advise you on it. Sorry.

I would go with the re-install option myself.

I never received notification that you had answered me so I've just been waiting. What about the question of the pictures not coming through? You said it was because I must have text selected -- but doesn't the screenshot above show that I do have the html selected? If so that brings me back to the original question of why I can't forward my cousin's emails and have the pictures go through.

I tried deleted my Storage Folder from C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and then copying and pasting the Storage Folder from the copy I had on my external and it appears to have worked. The only wrinkle would be that in some instances the old email which would no longer open seems to have remained in place so that means I have duplicates until and unless I go through and checked them all out. With the number of folders and emails I have stored, that would be a huge job so don't know if I will ever do that.

I'm a little afraid of the uninstall and re-install process because I've never done it with this Windows Live Mail before. I actually paid someone to install it for me originally. I don't know if Microsoft just likes to make it look that way or what ....... but, I've the places I've read about what to do for this process seemed to have a lot of extra steps and be confusing.

Can you give me any fresh direction on this process?

P.S. I just Googled this again and found a page at Windows Essentials - Download Windows Live Essentials that states I can no longer download WLM for Vista. Do you know what the deal is with this?

I guess I should not have added this problem with Storage Folders to this post as it's all getting too confusing. Sorry about that.

For this post let's just deal with the problem of my not being able to forward my cousins emails which contain graphics. You said when I forwarded to you they came through at text and not as html as expected. I posted the screenshot that shows under "Mail Sending Format" I have HTML selected. So why would my forwards come through to you as text?

As a new twist, I received a forward from my cousin this morning that had various photos on it and for the first time in quite awhile, when I tried to forward it on it went out without receiving that notification telling me the pictures would not be included.

I am sorry, but this big, long source code you copied and pasted means nothing to me. I see it says HTML on top and other than that it is a foreign language to me. The only thing I know is that I have html selected in the email program. Should I also have html selected for "News Sending Format?"

I used to know how to look at the source code in Windows Mail. It didn't mean much to me except I knew I could open it and remove all those line borders so many emails have at the sides. But I don't even know how you get to it in this Windows Live Mail. Windows Mail was a perfectly fine program, just like Outlook Express, and I don't know why they wanted to change two good programs for this confusing mess they call Windows Live Mail.

I just went back to WLM and I see running across the top of an email I had clicked "Forward" on it shows Plain Text, but when I clicked on that I got a message indicated that it was html. See screenshot attached. plaintext.PNG
If the email is already in html format, why doesn't it say that on top instead of saying Plain Text.

Hi,

Yes you are correct, your current message was in html & that selection would change it to TEXT format, hence the statement.

Now, as for the message earlier, the relevant bit of text in your source code was in bold: -

<P class=MsoPlainText><SPAN

This is the header detail in the email that failed to include the pictures correctly: -

Subject: Re: Emails without pictures
Date: Mon, 16 Mar 2015 13:16:46 -0600
X-ASG-Orig-Subj: Re: Emails without pictures
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain;
charset="utf-8"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
X-Priority: 3
X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
Importance: Normal
X-Mailer: Microsoft Windows Live Mail 15.4.3555.308
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V15.4.3555.308

Again this shows the message type as plain text?

So, I am unsure how you got or did what happened as your selection is html format.

Sorry if this sounds a little blunt but it's true, I don't think I will be able to clarify this any further.

Perhaps someone else could shine some light on this issue?

Well, I see that you are a Guru, Gold Member and VIP Member. If you can't help me then I have to wonder who can. As to what I did to get this since my selection is html format, I can assure you without reservation that I did nothing. Unless I have a problem I don't go messing around with settings and the like. I'm wondering if some Windows Update caused all this -- the deal with pictures, the deal with my Storage Folders??? Other than applying the updates I had not messed around with a single thing in my email as there had been no reason to.

You said perhaps someone else could shine some light on this. So, what do I do then to get someone else's attention -- repost under a different heading? I've tried to go to the Microsoft community but they've changed that so drastically it's hard to find your way around in it.

What about the business I asked you about regarding Windows Live Mail 2011 no longer being available for download for Vista? If that is the case then I can't even un- and re-install.
