case mods

Has any body done any case modifications on any of there OEM cases? I'm thinking about adding a clear panel to the side of my HP case with a 120mm fan w/led lights. Just wondering if any body has attempted this and what extras are involved. like connecting fan to power source.

Re: case mods

im about to mod my case actually to improve airflow (& it saves me transferring it all to a new case) got some 80mm duct so i can direct the air better....

when you say you want clarification on fan connection, im not really sure what you mean..?? the fans will either come with a 3pin Mobo chassis plug or a 4pin Molex......surly.??

Re: case mods

I assumed they came with some type of connection, I wasn't quite sure where that plug connection was made. If on the mobo where, if to the psu then where. Not sure where the connection is made. Thanks for the help

Re: case mods

Warning I put so many fans on one that it sounded like a vacuum cleaner. I admit it ran cooler but I was having a constant problem with dust on the innards of everything. It wasn't until years later that I found out you must have more air exhausting than you have entering.

I was planning on making the extra fan an exhaust fan. I have maxed out my OEM HP PC with add ons...ie. graphics card, usb card and so on. The air flow is being choked off a little more than I would like and a little hotter than I would like. I figured to add on a clear panel and add some blue led lighting and some case feet and a nice 120mm fan to exhaust from the side panel to pull that extra heat out. Kind of simplistically trick out pc while making it functional as well, for little money.

Re: case mods

Hello Bass.

We have close to the same machines; see if this is your mobo.

Motherboard Specifications, MCP61PM-HM (Nettle)*

If it is you may find where to 'plug in' fans. Be advised you'll probably have to upgrade the PSU if you haven't already; as you only have like a 330watt OEM PSU. Also doesn't that case have a structural member right down the center that the HDD and the removable HDD ("Personal Media Drive"; I think they call it) cage is attached to?

Here is my mobo
MCP61PM-HM (Nettle2)
I'll take the side off tomorrow and take some pictures of inside and post them. I think your right abut the structrual member. My thinking was/is an off center clear panel to hide hdd and stuctural stuff and mount the fan close to bottom of the panel to exhaust air. That was my thinking any how.
The only signifacent difference between our mobo is Raid support. My chipset and mobo supports Raid and only your chipset supports Raid not your mobo.

Re: case mods

Howdy!

Here's yours.

Motherboard Specifications, MCP61PM-HM (Nettle2)*

I removed that member; but then you'll have to relocate the HDD to the floor of the case and you'll lose the personal media drive also. That will leave you no other place to add a second HDD to if you so choose later. As it is now; I don't believe you'll have room to add a fan to the side of the case.

Keep us informed!

Re: case mods

One of the UK pc mags (PC Format i think) does a regular feature on case mods, not sure if you get anything like that over in the US of A but it may be worth having a look round.
