Hello Jerin,

That motherboard will support any size SATA hard drive currently made. :)

So are you sure a 1TB HDD will also work in this motherboard: GA:8I865GM:775?
I m asking so because this seems to be a pretty old motherboard...

It should, but if for some reason it does not, then a newer BIOS update for that motherboard may allow it to. If still not, then you can also always split the drive into two partitions as well for it work. :)

Shawn when you say to partion the Hard Drive do you mean to make a partion and format it into NTFS so that we have a virtual Partioned Hard Drive - Or is there another way for Partioned - Im asking you this Because even if the Hard Drive is partioned in NTFS the Motherboard (BIOS) will recognize the Hard Drive as a 500GB or 1TB which ever is applicable....

My Computer

Well, if your new motherboard only sees say 500GB of your 1TB drive, then you could shrink the 1TB into two 500GB partitions so that you can then use the full 1TB as two 500GB partitions instead of just 1TB partition.

I believe that motherboard should be able to see it the full 1TB though. If not, then a flashing the BIOS may allow it to afterwards before having to do the above unless you would prefer two partitions.

Thx Shawn,
That was very helpful, so can we use the same method for building a RAID 0 -- That is just using one hard drive and divide it into 2 and strip the info into each to get better performance -- is that possible

My Computer

Sorry, but no. A RAID 0 configuration can only include separate physical hard drives instead. It's also best that they are all the same size and speed to.

Sorry, :(

Shawn
