6 weeks seems quite generous, does this include public hols? 4 weeks annual leave would be the norm here. The teaching profession certainly gets more.
Life is what you make of it.
There is a saying that for the young working there is money but no time, for the old or retired there is plenty of time but no money. Such is life.

Conformity is the herd instict of the individual. Be true to yourself & be proud of who & what you are. Geek, nerd etc etc are just words after all. Words aren't life sentences.

Re: I am not a Geek!

Indeed 6 weeks is luxury, I know. It is negotiated. With our taxes, it is better to get time off than money, or the gov's take it. And life is certainly what you make of it, but good and bad also depends on your expectations. It is also very easy to heard off in the wrong direction, just to find later in life that it was something else you really wanted. Personally I am happy with little, tend to work more than I should, but though I many times have felt life tough, nowadays I am rather happy with things. It is a learning curve.

To be content is a positive attitude. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. Lots of money isn't the answer. As you say it's all a learning curve that we can choose to learn from or ignore at our peril.
Enjoy the journey.
PS. Do you take all of your hols at the same time?

Re: I am not a Geek!

Nowadays I split it. I was in China in April and next week I go to Greece. Then two weeks at home at the golf course. I guess it is winter time for you. When do you usually take time off?

Three relaxing hols a year sounds good. Happy holidaying in the warmth of Greece.
Yes winter here. Daily temp range today 4c to 14c. As a comparison in February we had one day with a temp range 28c to 48c with 100kph winds.
I am fortunate & can escape whenever the mood takes me. Even better when you can holiday in off peak periods.

LOL...lucky bugga! I have plenty of time ,not much good health or money , but I do still have a good active brain , (when I remember to use it ! ). For all of that , I have something better than most...I live in a permanent holiday state ,surrounded by the best friends and loving family a man could ever hope to have . Stuff it...nothing else matters .

I am indeed...and I spend quite some time at Riverside at my son's home Your info about living here possibly is one of the reasons we appear to share a lot of ideals et al. I follow a lot of your posts and have always liked what I've seen. I'm taking a few small steps back from the Tech forums for a little while atm to complete a very very long journey back to good mental wellbeing , yet still find I enjoy touching base with a few online friends, you being one of them. ( us taswegians gotta stick together...none like us , is there? )

Keep in touch.[albeit by PM.]
Good luck with the 'journey'. You are a positive, happy sounding soul & that should help you heaps.
Take care.
