I'm sorry but I think soon I might abandon my beloved windows for a Mac, and will probably sell the laptop I'm typing from. Not now, probably a couple months from now, but I still want to get a price on my computer. I'll usually would put it on Craiglist or Ebay but since I dont have my new laptop yet, I can't. I already listed my specs but here they are again:

-HP Pavilion dv4t-1000 CTO Notebook
-Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 (2.00GHz)
-Just about a year old (bought in Sep. 2008)
-Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
-2GB RAM
-160GB Hard Drive
-NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS 128MB
-Webcam, Microphone, Fingerprint Reader
-Expired Warranty, but transferable
-14.1" WXGA Display

So what do you think? If you need anymore specs, just tell me.

Why haven't you installed SP2?

I have, but when I format, its SP1 and I don't want to go in an install it, I want them to go through the initial settings phase.

Of course I have SP1! And I can't slipstream SP2 into my disc because its a 2-part recovery disc.

I think its a nice little machine. Although if you upgraded it to 4GB RAM that would help you sell it. It might even make you a profit on the money you spend upgrading because most people see 4 GB RAM and assume the machine is super fast ...

$690 would be definitely too much. A 17" is usually more expensive than a 14". But if you want to look at more prices, have a look here: Deals2buy: Laptop deals

it's known to slow machines down

It certainly hasn't slowed mine down.

Sure, people like to complain but they also complained about SP1.

Slightly more on-topic -

4GB of RAM would make it more enticing but you would have to probably buy 2x2GB sticks as most laptops only have two RAM slots which could be currently filled with 1GB sticks.

Use CPU-Z to determine how many RAM slots you have and if they are occupied.

I would say $250 to $300. Right now you could probably get an equivalent new laptop for under $500. See this an an example: HP G70 460US 17 Widescreen Notebook Computer With Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6500 by Office Depot

Yeah but its 17" and weighs 8lbs. But you may be right. I took an appraisal somewhere else and it said about $690.

But is that $690 a price they will buy it from you? I agree with the $250 top $300 range.

I think it's an estimate of what somebody else would buy from me, but the website looks quite old, so maybe my laptop was worth $700 around 2 years ago...

But still, with the cost of the MacBook Pro I want ($1100), if I sold my current laptop for $300, I would only pay really $800- The Apple Federal Govt. Discount I get. So around $750? That's not so bad for a laptop- especially a Mac.

Are you sure you want to venture into a Mac. That is a whole different world with a lot less options than with Windows (e.g. available programs). Maybe the new world of Windows 7 is another good option. I am certain that towards the end of the year there will be a lot of very exciting offerings - e.g. on black Friday.

    My First Build ;)
Number 1- I've tried Windows 7 Beta. Horrible- NEVER EVER EVER. Sad to say (gulp) that Vista is better.

Number 2- I have used Macs before and I love them. Other than the price, it's awesome. No viruses (well a few...), nice interface, much more powerful because it's built on UNIX, and as WHS said about less programs, I could still use my favorite programs using Boot Camp (I have a Vista DVD) or use a program called Wine, which can run Windows executable files. Also, Mac is much more open-source for devs like me with tool like Xcode, and X11. Also, most of the programs I use, are all Windows or Mac. And at least Mac comes out with updates like 10.5.1 or 2 or 3 and so on. Windows has useless updates coming out everyday, and the important updates (Service Packs) come out every year or so. So I'm sure about going to Mac OS X, and I'm psyched about Snow Leopard.

(Slightly off topic)

Number 1- I don't agree. Yes, maybe Windows Seven Beta wasn't perfect, but the RTM has already came out, and you need to try out the RTM to make comments like that. I certainly think that Microsoft has done quite a good job in programming Windows 7.

Number 2- I totally agree. Mac is better than Windows (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say this on this forum...) in all the ways you described. Once I have enough money for a Macbook Pro, I'm definitely gonna buy one.

I'd say probably about 400-500 US which country are you from though and where would you sell it? Ebay you wouldnt get much for it, if you sell it privately you have a better chance depending on their computer knowledge
