PLEASE take care of your teeth!!!!

Hello Friends,

I just got back from the dentist (have not been in 20yrs)
I had a tooth ache for 4days.
today, I had to pay $2469 for ONEroot canal.
I have to go back in 3 weeks for the crown. the pain stopped in my mouth but the pain in my wallet is killing me more than the 3hrs of drilling.

No insurance, no $$$ in checking account/savings. Had a $30,000 credit line with my credit card ( I owed $22,300 already now added $2469 )

I wished I had my teeth taken care of when I had a good job

Please be advised, don't be like me and wait for a pain in your mouth B4 you go to the Dr.

how long has it been for you to see the dentist?

stay well all,

~Carmine

The joy of living in the US. Or is it the fact I get my dental care for free.
I belive your new president i trying to get affordable treatment for everyone, then same as it has been here for ages.

Look on the bright side, if you were on holiday abroad it could have cost you more.

By the way the web links dont work.

Re: PLEASE take care of your teeth!!!!

It depends.

In the uk there is the NHS system - paid for by the taxpayer.

Essential medical treatment carries no extra charge on top of what you alreay paid in taxes. What constitutes essential is debatable - but generally, it works well.

Dental treatment is different. There used to be good cover under the NHS for essential work - it pays part of the cost- but that has deteriorated drastically under the present government.

Some people pay nothing at all - certain categories of Unemployed, for example - the NHS will fund the entire cost of essential treatment - if they are lucky enough to find an NHS dentist.

A lot of dentists refuse to do NHS work - they are only after the money.

Vast numbers of people are unable to get any NHS subsidy because of that - and have to pay the full cost.

Note the word essential - if you don't want a crown that looks like a tombstone - you have to pay for it.

You could pay $600-$2000 for just one crown - depending who you go to and what you want - then there is the root canal treatment on top.

On the other hand , you might be lucky.

If the crown was at the back - and you didn't care too much what it looked like - and you were able to get an NHS dentist - it would be a lot less.

Dentistry in the UK is a shambles.

Re: PLEASE take care of your teeth!!!!

The dentist I have been going to does root canal and porcelin/steel crown for about $700 USD. Goes in through the top of the tooth.

I have heard some dentists still use the old method of root canal work, and go in through the side via the gums. Ouch !

Depends on the dentist. Some pay attention to your gurgles of pain, some don't.
