No real need to these days. The world comes to us.

I certainly haven't.
I may not have found better, but I remember it was better

I don't really like the direction Australia is heading in.

What you say may indeed be true.
You are sounding like an old timer. " I remember the good old days when............"
Times change & we have to adapt to those changes & move on.
The young look forward. The middle aged look startled. The old look backwards.
Where do you sit?

Right now I'm sitting here with a grin on my face

I look back and forwards with almost equal measure.

Knowing that times change and adaptation is necessary, doesn't mean I have to like them

I do believe that I'm on the right track to becoming a 'grumpy old b*stard'

That reminds me, I remember when....

Yes! The small island of 'Atiu' -[ 'Enua manu' ...Island of Birds], located
about 190 kms [about 120 miles] North East of Rarotonga, in the central Pacific Islands nation of the Cook Islands. Meitaki manea!

Lol, I don't know about 'mid-life' crisis - that's been happening since my teens and I still don't have a sports car, nor a hairpiece - but both would be nice

The older I get, the more closed my mind becomes to certain things - just like millions have experienced before me. At least I know I'm 'normal'

That's not a Mid-life crisis, it's a lifestyle choice, but what the heck......whatever your bag!!

Hairpieces tend to adopt an alarming vertical stance when driven around in Sports Cars [especially convertibles], and moreso when not securely glued down!

Re: Today

Tony,
We all have our phantasy places [your island] which rely on their charm through lack of development / population. Needless to say they don't stand up to close examination. We need them to keep our sanity in the real world.

smarteyeball,
In our life cycle we all go from conservative - to radical - to conservative again.
Hence the proliferation of grumpy old f**ts. You are following a well trodden path.
Even the ancient Greek philosophers noted this phenomena in their population.

Re: Today

Well this morning I looked after my new grandson for a few hours while his parents and brother went to the Remembrance Day parade.

My son-in-law wore both uniforms in the same morning his best dress one for the parade then there was a call-out so he donned his work uniform to attend a rescue on the beach, he was the first on scene, someone with a broken leg.
