And noticed it when I was very little.

Why do you see after images when you wave your hand across a tv/computer monitor or display? I know it's not light, since I just tried it now with my lamp.

...holy crap, it doesn't do this on my lcd laptop display! Hmm...guess it's just CRT TV/computer displays maybe because of the scan lines, am I right?

Yes, it is the "scan lines", the refreshing of the screen acting like the strobe light in the dance floor.

the crt television refreshes its screen 60 times a second. 60Hz input. So I presume a 50Hz television elsewhere refreshes at 50 times a second.

I remember an optical illusuion from years ago. Watching the US flag on a black and white telly for about 2 minutes. Look away to a dark wall in the same room, and the flag becomes one with colors. i never tried it, so I don't know how true it is.
