Hollywood has a way with computer tech that makes an impression, whether we laugh out loud or cry with envy.

Hollywood has always had a way with the OSes and UIs it shows on the big screen. Sometimes they're so far-fetched, all you can do is laugh, other times they're eerily accurate portrayals of future technology, and then there are the few that just make you jealous with envy. Here are a few of our favorites that Hollywood has given use, but give us some slack on what constitutes an OS or UI...Hollywood isn't always clear about that. The one that gets me is NCIS. Watching Tim and Abby work on same keyboard typing commands at the same time.

I agreed with the comment "forgot HAL." Not only the dealing with HAL by just talking. But the shots of the space shuttle rotating in time with the space station and the navigation graphics of the instrumentation. Pretty good for 1968.

Not to mention the "graphical user interface" when the astronaut goes "through" the obelisk. That was a trip in itself.

More of a Pan-Am passenger spaceship rotating with the space station. Handles many more passengers.

More of a Pan-Am passenger spaceship rotating with the space station. Handles many more passengers.

I know. I've seen the film a bunch of times and have it on DVD. But since it "shuttles" passengers between the space station and Earth, it's a "shuttle."
