Hi beiniam, if you post your system spec such as at least the brand and name of the drive.

Regardless, there are a few causes for the problem as of firmware, audio driver, or things like using Nero, DVDFab, VSO and Daemon Tools as such.

However, I would first flash firmware. You may first do a uninstall and reinstall optical driver before the firmware.

Post back and let us know how it goes.

My Computer

Sorry beiniam, I did a little reach in vain for the firmware. As usual, it is not a easy task to pinpoint one that works.

It is not that software mentioned is bad, only that it might be corrupted or conflicts with one and other. Also, you need to look into updating the audio driver too. There is no tricks to it; all is to it, is trial and error to uninstall and reinstall and in different order.

I hate to suggest anyone to give up on anything, but come to optical drives problem, I would replace it with another brand hoping the warrant is still effective. I know it is not a cheap drive.

Good luck and please keep us inform.

I have had the same problem. I am on my second Toshiba A500 after taking the last one back for the same problem with in 7 days. The same blacked out screen happened nearly every day and on day 7 the screen had a pink wash though it(if that makes sense). So today i got a replacement A500 on day 8 and 5 hours into using it the same problem occurred. For reading about it, there seems to be a hardware problem. I think my 10 year relation ship with Toshiba is about to come to a end:(. Always found them very reliable.

The message i get is as follows.
