    BSOD 4x in 4 days - what do I do? :(

Hey guys. So I'm definitely not a computer whiz by any means; I'm actually kind of an epic fail when it comes to technology lol. I really can't even tell you too much information about my computer, besides the fact that it's an HP laptop. I got it right before my freshman year of college, so about two years ago.

I know I have the Vista Home Basic 32bit OS and there's a little sticker on my laptop that says AMD Mobile Sempron and in the Properties thing it says
"Processor: Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3500+ 1.80 GHz" and
    "Memory: 895 RAM."
I really have no clue what those things mean so I decided to ask you lovely people.

I've gotten the Blue Screen of Death four times in the past four days. I haven't installed any new software that I can recall but all of a sudden, I'm getting pop-ups, which I thought were a thing of the late 90s or something. (I use the Safari browser.) Maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, I figured out how to stop the computer from auto restarting so I could write down the BSOD message.

In short, it said to run a system diagnostic utility (??), to run a memory check for faulty, mismatched memory (??) and to possibly change video adapters (???). The message it had was this:

    STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x8014F000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Again, I have no idea what this means but I know enough to know that a BSOD is no bueno. I'm leaving for a weekend vacation today (go figure) but I'll try to check my email as much as possible for replies .. Any help/suggestions would be incredibly appreciated! Thank you

Hi wakeupxmaggie and welcome to the forum.

Do you run any antivirus program?

I would suggest you download, install and run Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware. Do not install anything that run memory resident, just use them as on-demand scanners, unless you are without antivirus protection.

Report back if anything is found.

Also check in Device Manager (type Device Manager in the Start - Search field and press enter) if you have any exclamation mark on any device.

Here's a link to a brief description of the error message: Troubleshooting Windows STOP Messages
As you can see from this, there's a lot that could be wrong here.
The first thing(s) to check would be your memory and hard drive.

To do this, follow the steps at these posts:

You have to find *.DMP files in C:\Windows\Minidump and analyze them - these files includes more information than alone STOP message
