Blue Screen *** STOP: 0x0000007E .....

Hello,

I booted my laptop, Acer 4620Z running Vista, this morning to a blue screen with the following error message:
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x81f976af, 0x80599a40, 0x8059973c)

I tried to reboot in safe mode to no avail. While loading drivers it gets to: windows/system32/drivers/crcdisk.sys and then goes back to the blue screen which now reads:
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x81f636af, 0x80399a40, 0x8039973c)

Neither error message gave any explanation after the error code.

The last time it was running, yesterday morning, it wanted to reboot for an automatic update which I did not let it do. Figured it would load on the next start-up.

Recent history: I had experienced a couple times where when I unplugged my printer usb cable from the laptop the machine would shut down. Other than that I have not had any trouble with it.

Is there any way for me to get this machine up so it can be troubleshot? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Brian

Update: I run a small mobile based business off this laptop. Its inability to run means no income. Time is critical so I expect I will buy a replacement today. Does anyone make a laptop that is worth a darn and actually holds up to being on the go all day? I have been through 7 different models in the last 12 years. 3 Panasonic Toughbooks, 3 Toshiba and now an Acer.

Thanks Ken. One small problem though. The machine will not boot beyond the blue screen which comes up during driver loading. Cannot access any info for you or I would have. I thought I explained the issue of no boot but I must have not been clear enough.

Turns out it is a hard drive failure. I have someone working on it doing a recovery as I type. I planned on posting my findings when the repair was complete. Is there a more durable option for us who are mobile? I am going broke replacing hard drives and laptops.

Thanks again,
Brian
