Solved BSOD - Driver?

Have attached BSOD minidumop as per instruction.

Some detail also:

I have started getting BSOD when running apps.

BSOD Suggests driver issue. The error messge is:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

also mentions uguru at the end of message motherboard is abit ip35pro

I have uninstalled uguru now and still get the error.

My Nvidia 8800 gts has the latest drivers (8.17.12.5721) (Vista 64 bit) - I am wondering if they could be the cause, but i don't have the previuous drivers to roll back to.

Any ideas how to decipher the code. I have latest Windowspatches and have not installed any new hardware. I did reset the BIOS recently as system would not boot (power would only come on for a second).

Strangely i seem to lose some settings like desktop resolution and web pages dont remember my passwords after the crashes.

The memory.dmp again mentions uguru.

Looks like AVG is causing the issue. Please remove it with this tool: http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arv_sup_____.dir/avgremoverx64.exe

Replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials (also free): http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Many thanks for the help, it is greatly appreciated. I will follow the advice and post back with the results.

If successful I would be interested in what caused it as I have used AVG since build with no isues, only recent software change is Microsoft Updates.

Also, I am interested in why uguru.sys is referenced in the .DMP files after I have uninstalled it? Could that be a registry entry that has not uninstalled?

Again - many thanks

My Computer

Perhaps there are leftovers still running.

AVG has some poorly coded drivers. That means that AVG will work fine in some systems, but cause crashes in others.

I have seen people who have used AVG for years, and complain when I ask them to uninstall it, but show surprise that it was indeed the issue.

In your post you mentioned that the computer would not boot until you reset the bios. On the side of the IPpro is a two digit readout (on the motherboard). If your computer fails to boot, please write down the code and post here. It may be a hardware error that has now caused this.
Hopefully by following jonathans advise your problem will be resolved.

OK - I have uninstalled AVG and then cleaned registry for unwanted AVG entries. I have installed the MS Security essentials Anto-Virus software as recommended.

I have also updaed gfx card driver as nvidia released a new one a couple of days ago and.....

I still get blue screens. New .dmp attached.

Oh and thanks again for the help so far! :)

is your computer crashing quite alot?
If it is then it seems like a hardware problem, if not then software.
The main problem with system is that diagnosing things is very hard.
You have to start at basics. You have a system that is crshing at a system level program.
It may be hardware or software.
As a bit of diag I would boot into the BIOS and leave it there.
The main probem you had to start with was with the mother board.
This will give you a guide where to start with.
If you have friends with hardware, get them to tests your motherboard.
This looks like the problem.

Strange, I still see AVG drivers running in RAM. I guess you need to run the tool again.

http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arv_sup_____.dir/avgremoverx64.exe

I also see no evidence of MSE drivers in RAM. Please be sure to install this: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Make sure to do that and post back with the new dumps if they reoccur.

Thanks,
~JK

OK - in case anyone is interested I have sorted the issue.

I started to look at the .dmp files and saw that uguru.sys was mentioned and I had uninstalled it and cleaned Registry.

However, I saw this in the dmp files again - using Vista search (searching everything, non indexed and system/hidden files aswell) I never ever found a sign of uguru.

However, I decided to manually search the registyry and found multiple references and deleted them. One aslo led me to a driver file called uguru.sys which I deleted in Windows.

I am extremely confusd as to why Vista Search could not find this file when I seearched many times with all options to find everything enabled.

Thanks for the help anyway all.
