Page fault in nonpaged area, upon startup

As I cannot even start my computer in safe mode, I can't really 'upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder', so sorry about that.

Basically, it says :
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

*** STOP: 0x00000050 (0x90A9B004, 0x00000000, 0x8ED70FCE, 0x00000000)

The error occurs soon after the splash screen, while trying to start safe mode, and while attempting system-restore.

Nothing new was installed, hardware or software wise, unless it was windows update downloading crap again.

This article on Microsoft decribes perfectly what's happening, but then gives a hotfix. How am I supposed to install a hotfix for an error that is described as not letting the computer start?

Maybe someone has an idea what's going on? My only other thought besides that fix, is that it's hardware failure, as one time I got a message saying it tried to write to read-only memory.

Have you got the latest service pack for your computer?

The latest service pack for Windows Vista is SP2.
