Just ran a scan in cmd and here is my result.

It found corrupt files but cannot replace them, here is the CBS file.

Please help!

(By the way I did have the BSoD a few times before this started happening)

Hello Steve, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

I have just had a look at that log. Not good. Not good at all. This is not going to be easy.

(for any experts: parsed log uploaded below)

Right, let us see what we can do. First though, I need to ask you to confirm that you are running SP2, that you are running Vista Ultimate, and may I please ask approximately how old this computer is (number of years)

Right, now please follow these instructions. I know that you are not exactly asking about the BSoD, but it helps me to know. http://www.vistax64.com/crashes-debugging/282419-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Just to let you know, I think that this is a hardware fault with your hard disk. We will confirm this, but I think that it is going to come down to needing a new hard disk drive. Sorry

Right, now please follow these steps:

OTLI.gif
OTL - Download or alternative link here and here

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

/md5start
ddraw.dll
esent.dll
batang.ttc
MSHWCHTR.dll
C_20127.NLS
mshwkorr.dll
WindowsMailGadget.exe
NlsModels0011.dll
shell32.dll
/md5stop

  • Click the None button, followed by the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open one notepad window. OTL.Txt These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of this file, and post them here.
Right, now let us do some hardware diagnostics. Below courtesy of usasma:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html (read the details at the link)
http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans toensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: http://www.carrona.org/malware.html (read the details at the link)
I know this is a lot to be getting on with, but it all needs to be done. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask about anything!

Richard

Hello there thanks for your reply.

Will do the bootable diagnostics in a bit, but no malware has been found and here is my OTL.txt

Oh! And my computer is less than three months old....but it seems I'm running on service pack 1.

This is very odd. I have never seen anything like this before. Those files are not corrupt. They have good MD5s. It must be some deeper problem with the database or something. Hmmm.

That OTL log was done perfectly! Well done! Let us see if there is anything we can get out of the program crash reports. Please follow the advice from the post above at some point, but for now prioritise this. After all, the initial conclusions seem to be all wrong, and the laptop is so new!

Right, please follow this post: http://www.vistax64.com/crashes-debugging/282419-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

I meant to post this in my previous post, and have slipped it in, but forgot to add it. Please forgive me! Here is the link: http://www.vistax64.com/crashes-debugging/282419-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Install SP2 and all updates if you can, or give me your error message.

Now, please run steps 1, 2A, 3 (about 15 minutes), 4, 5, and then Step 1 from the top yellow box, but only follow this last one if Integrity Violations were found. Please upload the new sfcdetails.txt from your Desktop. System Files - SFC Command

See if the problem has been fixed. I have loads more ideas, but I don't want to make this post look too scary! We will come to them later as and when.
