hey everyone, I'm having a prob with my vista Toshiba laptop
it is about that "Host process for windows service had stopped working"
so i already did some research about it, and all i found is that i should go to the event viewer and checkout the administrative events for errors i have in my system...
but the prob is that i didn't actually know how to deal with these errors, knowing that i found a lot of them actually :zip: so if any body can please help me with one of the errors I've found, it is entitled as "service control manager eventlog provider" :

Welcome,

Some of these problems present difficulties for everyone.
I do have several suggestions
You may want to look at this somewhat related article
http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/host-process-for-windows-services-stopped-working/
In addition your problem seems to originate from the fact that the service is already running, lets see if we can find where, perform a clean boot.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
If a clean boot does not help, try to boot in safe mode and see what happens.
If you know when the problem started you may even want to try system restore
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

What was the problem that caused you to go to event viewer.

um for the first website, I've seen it before but i didn't really got any use of it  as for method 1,2,3 where useful, and for the other methods, i didn't get them :p

for the second suggestion, it says there that:
Note If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We strongly recommend that you do not use the System Configuration utility to modify the advanced boot options on the computer unless a Microsoft support engineer directs you to do this. Doing this may make the computer unusable.
so are you sure that i should do that :sarc:

and as for the safe mode, i really didn't get what you mean :p

system restore? is that like formating or something?

um well actually i went there for 2 reasons:
1- whenever i start my system, i get an error message related to Microsoft net frame work, that it stopped working, and asks me to continue or quit or whatever
2- Because of the Host process thingy

As far as the suggestion given regarding the network, personally, I would not use that suggestion, the problem that you have is small in comparison to what you may encounter if you use the Utility.

If it were my computer, the first thing I would try is system restore

um okay if system restore was such a gd idea then i might just go for it :D
but before i do, what is it about :P is it like formating or like as if you are putting on a new windows system?

My Computer

System restrore takes pictures of your Operating System every time a point is set.
If you go back to a point, everything in the Operating System goes back to the way it was when the picture was taken.
Everything will change, except for your personal stuff, pictures, documents etc.
It effects only the Operating System.
After System Restore everything, except your personal stuff, will be like it was on the restore point date that you selected.
Pick a date a few days before the problem started.

man listen, when i was choosing my restore point... the newest one is like more than 60 days old.. so do i go for it ? or that might be dangerous?

My Computer

You should have one that is only a few days old. If you pick the 60 day everything that you changed in those 60 days will be gone
New programs, settings etc. Its not dangerous, but there may be a lot of changes.
What happend to the restore points that are made automatically once a week?

Anyway, restore points that old basically always fail to complete. You would never have actually managed to restore to that point, but since you never tried, it is a bit of a moot point!

Don't worry about my point. It was unimportant, and moot anyway. Back to the important issues. Well done! It worked well! Now please go back to this tutorial: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

and follow STEP ONE from the top yellow tip box, and upload the sfcdetails.txt from your Desktop.

Thanks!
