Laptop screen turns black repeatedly.

I need Urgent help please. I have Windows Vista Home Premium x64 on a Gateway laptop. Whenever my recharger is plugged in to my laptop, and I try to use my laptop, the screen goes very dark (you can still sort of see, but its really dark to even work with the laptop). This happens about 5-10 seconds after I open my laptop's screen. In order to get rid of the darkness, I close the laptop's screen, reopen it, and 5-10 seconds later the screen goes black again. When I do not have my recharger plugged in, this problem won't happen. I also tried System Restore, which failed. However, when I go on Safe Mode, the problem does not occur even with the recharger plugged in. By closing the laptop screen, I mean taking the head (idk whats its called) and putting it down and picking the head back up. I really appreciate the help guys, I really need to get my laptop working again. For any other information about the laptop required, please ask. Thanks! :)

Suppose it is a driver problem, what might I have to do in order to fix it? I didn't try the clean boot yet, I am currently doing a virus scan. I'll let you know when I try the clean boot.

My Computer

Do the full virus scan and download and make a scan with malwarebytes. You may have some malware, but I do not think its the cause of this problem. But wise of you to think of that; go with malwarebytes, too to be sure.
If its a driver, we will check to try to find which one.
We may, also, have to test with boot logging.

The virus scan finished. No malware was found. However, I found out that it is probably related to the backlight since I hear the sound of something electric burning out/turning off. Do I need to buy another backlight and replace it? Or is there a way to repair it? Thanks.

It is not your backlight. This problem does not occure when your charger is not plugged in.
What does the sound, sound like? Can you smell burning?

No I don't smell burning I just hear the sound of it. And Actually the problem was happening before (2-3 days ago when the problem started happening) even with my charger not plugged in. However, that isn't happening anymore. The sound is like an electrical device being turned off, or like the sound of something running out of battery and shutting off. I'm trying to be as descriptive as possible, sorry :( Also, about 2-3 days ago, when my lid was up, it used to take 5-10 seconds for the black screen to appear. Now, it does it instantly as I open the lid. Thanks for your help :)

Can you test with another charger?
