Freezing issues

A while back my computer started acting slow and sluggish, especially when I would do internet-intensive programs such as Firefox. Recently it has become worse to the point where often while I simply typing something into the address bar, my computer will freeze and have to be force-restarted. I have tried running my McAfee virus scan but that freezes when it gets to certain files, which are different every time.

On a side note, my entire iTunes library was deleted somehow off my computer, without my knowledge. When I go to re-import all my songs, it freezes on certain song. Which are usually the same ones every time.

This issue has become so bad I can hardly use my computer at all. Thank you for anything you can do, and I can provide more information if needed.

Maybe if you know when this first started and what you were doing at the time.

If you are able back up everything you want to keep.

Have you tried booting in safe mode to see if you still have the same problems there also. Here is a great tutorial on safe mode.

Hey guys thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I am performing a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan on my other computer as we speak, and already he has found one infected file in the first 16000 files so fingers crossed on that one.

As for more information on the computer itself. It is a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Windows Vista Home Premium x32 edition.

I have tried running the virus scan in both standard and safe modes, as well as doing a system recovery from safe mode. Some things that I have found on my own were under my msconfig startup files, there were 4 files that the internet told me were potential trojan horse virus'

(During the time it is taking to write this reply, Malwarebytes hase frozen, and my computer has become unresponsive)

I have removed those programs from the starup list but can't get my virus-scan to remove them because it freezes every time I run it.

*just thought of this and couldn't edit my last post because the mod hadn't ok'ed it yet.

This all started a few weeks ago when I updated my iTunes. That was the first time I noticed that it froze on certain songs. Since then the problem has manifested itself to what it is now.

Hello

You said you did a restore, which reinfected your whole system, in the future when you have a virus or malware never use the restore points to do the system restore because the virus is in the restore points, so next time remember delete them all and start new ones, you did not do anything wrong because you did not know. I am going to send this to the forum expert her name is Jacee and she will get back to you until then don't do anything else with the computer, she will know how to fix it...

After the scan is done click and let the malwarebytes delete it, and then delete your restore points and when it is all fixed, the very first thing to do is start a new restore point.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help. Just so you know, and for Jacee if she is reading this, I am not able to get through any scan. It will freeze every time, forcing me to manually shut down. The problem I believe is that fact that when I can get my Task Manager up, CPU usage is at or around 100% at all times. I don't know if this helps but it's just more information for you.
