    Help Vista will not start!

I am running Vista 64 bit on a Toshiba laptop.

I tried all the advanced startup functions including Startup Repair to no success. I do have the command prompt though.

I get the windows loading bar then after awhile I get:

    "Stop: c000021q (Fatal System Error)
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedlly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000006 0x00100670)
    System has been shut down"

Before I turned off the restart upon sys failure, it would just keep restarting and running Startup Repair to no success in a big loop.

I cannot use sys restore or backup either

    Any ideas?

I tried both sfc /scannow and sfc /verifyonly from the advanced repair options and it said windows resource protection could not start the repair service

You probably did not start it properly
    Go to search
    type cmd
right click on cmd when it pops up and then run as administrator
In the elevated cmd type sfc /scannow
    Elevated Command Prompt

Do you mean the HD or the o/s is a gonner?

If it is the o/s -

    1. If you made a recent system image of some kind - now is the time to restore it.

    OR

    2. You may be able to start up the oem recovery app.

That should have a method of copying your files off - before restoring the factory image.

Why is the SFC command not working? What am I doing wrong? Also, it asks me something about I want to unmount the volume or something when I use CHKDSK because it is in use?

Not surprised you are getting those messages.

Make sure you are running against the correct volume:

    At cmd prompt, type:

    diskpart

    lis vol

(find the letter for your Vista partition - that might not be the same letter you saw in windows )

    exi.

Use the letter you found in place of z below:

    sfc /scannow /offbootdir=Z:\ /offwindir=Z:\windows

    after that

    chkdsk Z: /f

If it asks to unmount, say yes
