Crash with system date changing

I've been getting crashes where sometimes the computer system date changes. It seems to go to arround 2006. The last one was changed to December 31, 2006, 11PM.

Anyone know what would cause this?

Welcome
First make a full anti virus scan.
Then download and make a full scan with malwarebytes.
Be sure to update first.
If it continues and you do not have any virus, I would suggest a clean boot to see if that can solve the problem. It may be caused by some software that you are using.

I actually recently bought a new video card (EVGA nVidia GTX 460 SE). This problem never happened until I installed the new card. I tried the last 3 version of drivers and even used CCleaner and Driver Sweeper to "clean out previous remnance" as some ppl in the EVGA forums suggested. But what makes me wonder is how does the system date change. I'm pretty sure I don't have a virus because not only was there nothing caught on any scans, but I didn't really install anything except a couple of Windows updates shorlty after using the new video card.

Once a possiblity is ruled out incorrectly, we will never find the cause.
Make the AV and Malware scan, then we can proceed.

The system date changing is a sign that the internal battery is dying and the bios is resetting. How old is your computer?
When you access the bios do a check of the voltages being supplied to the mobo to ensure that your PSU is pushing out the power required. What is the wattage of your PSU?

My computer is 3.5 years old.

The computer (Core 2 Quad, 4GB) worked fine prior to the a new EVGA nVidia 460 SE card I bought.
I have a 610W SLI certified PSU and it worked perfectly for the past 3.5 years, and all I have is an HD and DVDR drive.
Newegg.com - PC Power and Cooling S61EPS 610W Continuous @ 40°C EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7

So you are saying that perhaps coincidentally, my internal battery might be running out as I bought the video card? So how would this play out? When I crash I turn off my computer (no more power) resetting the bios? If that was the case, shouldn't all my other bios settings reset too?

Also, I've left my computer on Vista sleep state most of it's life so I didn't power off the motherboard too much. Even if I shutdowned, I never really touched the PSU switch. Would this still drain the bios battery?

I would have posted the same as Roy, except for the fact of the crashes. It would not hurt to replace the battery, but the crash problem still concerns me.

I did a full computer scan and found some Java Trojan called Download.BB and it removed it. But it didn't solve the problem. It might have been there before because I've not used Java for a while and don't think I downloaded anything related recently.

My computer still froze today after like 1 hour usage...though it worked for like 10 hours yesterday and never crashed. But this time the crash didn't "change the date"...though it doesn't always change the date anyway so maybe it will the next time (once it went to 2080), I don't know. :(

There were a couple of random errors logs right after I booted the computer today at arround 11:15AM, but nothing in between until it after the crash (presumably @ 12:01 PM) which says:

12:04 PM - "Audit events have been dropped by the transport. The real time backup file was corrupt due to improper shutdown."

I tried to change the CMOS battery but it didn't solve it. After a short time I wasn't able to get into Windows and maybe not even BIOS POST. When I F8 into the BIOS, it would even freeze there randomly when I'm trying to move around. So I figured it was the BIOS or Chipset that was dying. Is that what it looks like? Maybe the new PCIE 2.0 card killed my PCIE 1.0 motherboard...after a short while? Or was it just coincidence?

So I decided to upgrade the Mobo/CPU/RAM and my new setup can run that video card fine.

Thanks a bunch for all the help.

Hello Rasmasyean

I agree with Rich, I also see where you say you ran a scan and had some virus, Plese note that sense you do not know how long it was in your computer do not use any of your restore points, delete them and start new ones as you may reinfect your system...

Malwarebytes sometimes picks up things your anti-virus does not so if you don't have it please download the free version and run a full scan using malwarebytes here is there link. Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download ...

After you get your system up and running...

So you're saying that perhaps a virus corrupted my BIOS or something and over a duration it got worse and worse? Can the motherboard be "saved" by putting a new BIOS into it? Or perhaps connected to a floppy drive (if it can boot to that point) and FLASHED with a new version?

My Computer

HI

I am saying that malware, virus's can make your system do things it does not normally do and if let alone it can cause a lot of problems, that's why I asked you to run them AFTER you get your system back up and running.

We will continue to help you as much as you need until you have your problem solved...

Thanks a bunch for your help. Though where we last left off, I could barely get past the BIOS POST and can barely stay in the BIOS long enough to change settings. So I couldn't even run the computer on just the FLASH, let alone boot to a CD. So I pretty much "upgraded" my whole computer aside from the video card. :p

It was either a boot to Windows and crash shortly after...or F8 to BIOS, peek around and freeze.
