Windows Error Recovery

keep getting "windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause". I have tried everything but nothing works. Tried downloading Ubuntu to at least get my data to do a system restore but when I try to download Ubuntu on another computer I get "create an association in the Set Associations control panel". I have no clue as to what that means.:(

System restore should not affect your data.
Try in safe mode and see if you get better results with the computer. If you do, try with a clean boot to determine the true problem.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

OK,

What CD/DVD image burning software have you installed? this is needed to create the bootable Ubuntu disk.

  1. WinISO
  2. Alcohol
  3. MagicISO
Etc. etc. There are some free versions but they are not listed here!

If Ubuntu will not download, there is a very good probablity its a hardware problem. That is something that we cannot fix at this forum.

Thank you very much for your reply. By the way, when starting a computer, do you know how to prevent your hardware from scanning, so that all that shows on your screen is your "desktop screen with your present icons".
