"The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"

Is the error message i get when i try to log in to either my admin user or the one other account on the computer. As the problem is happening with both accounts i have no way to access the computer in order to fix the problem in the ways so many people have done. I was reading something about a way to enable the "Hidden Built-In Administrator Account" via a control prompt which i might be able to use to log in and fix the problems im having but i dont know how to bring up a control prompt window without loging into one of the accounts (which i cannot log into). Essentually im trying to find a way of gaining access to my computer again without wiping the files on it, it would be a pitty to lose all the information on the computer if i dont have to - so im hoping someone might be able to walk me through the fixing process i need to undertake if it is possible to solve these problems without wiping everything and starting from scratch on a blank computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i cant find anything on this specific issue (most people seem to be able to log into at least one user still but i cannot use any of the users on my computer), its driving me nuts having to borrow other peoples laptops etc in the meantime so again any help would be muchly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi thanks for the reply, it all looks quite doable but there is another issue that has come up, i thought i had found the elevated commmand prompt but it looks like iv got the "edit boot options" screen instead. I have been searching the web for hours trying to find out how to get to the "elevated command prompt screen" before login and i still cant find a single helpfull page. If i find out how to get to the elevated command prompt screen im sure i could follow the above instructions but untill then i cant do a thing. Im sure its pretty simple, as far as i knew its a matter of holding or pressing repetedly the right key while starting up the computer again, however i have no idea which key it is i should press. F10 got me to the edit boot options screen so i guess its not F10. Im hopeless with PCs as i have little experience fixing anything on windows but im learning as i go [and glad to be doing so as frustrating as this situation is], i figure its about time i got to know more about how windows works in this day and age anyway. But yeah, essentually i cant log in, and cant find out how to get to the elevated command prompt screen before login. Im using a phillips computer if that makes any difference. oh and i forgot to mention, i cant get it going via the safe mode with command prompt either [or any safe mode at all]. Anybody able to help?

Just go to start button, all programs, the accessories, then you see the cmd prompt , just right click and press run as admin.. that should do it.

Hi,
The work around that I would suggest is to create a new user account with adming previlege and then transfer all the data in the previous account to the new one.

This should do the trick....

Hello Yeti, and welcome to Vista Forums.

The tutorial below can help show you how to fix this error. The STEP ONE section will help show you how to boot into the built-in Administrator account through Safe Mode.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Tapping F8 at boot to go to Safe Mode as in step 2 of the STEP ONE section of the tutorial linked above should allow you to be able to do the rest of the tutorial.

If you are unable to get there, then doing a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before this started may be able to fix it as well.
