Hey, it is me this time, lol , Lottie is talking about the Ram , they are called sticks to some, chips to others. Easy to pull one and test the one left, and as a note he mentions that they need to match. Check his link out. good stuff.

CPU is central processing unit , which is separate from the Ram sticks, should just be a cover to access the ram sticks. You will not touch the cpu at all.

Most desktops have an access panel on the side. You may want to research what Ram looks like and how to remove it . Electronic components can be damaged by static electricity, you might want to take your computer to a professional or have someone who knows help you out.

ok i know that essentially, different brands of RAM would work the same rite?
for the 1GB one, its 1GB 1Rx8 PC2-6400U-666-12
for the 2GB one, its 2GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400U-666-12-E3
so it actually fits rite? i have no need to change bah...

Hello again,

Well I am lost as to exactly what you are trying to say.

Please post a more concise version of your last two posts. This will help us to gain an understanding of your new problem

ok... Before I took out the 1GB RAM, it was working pretty fine, with no BSOD for quite some time. Then, I had another problem after i installed windows update, it was supposed to restart, but the monitor didnt respond after it showed 'windows shutting down'.
I then tried to restart the cpu, but the monitor did not respond to the restarting of my cpu. Thus I gave up on it and proceeded to work on the RAM, I managed to remove the 1GB RAM after a few attempts and found out that my 2 RAM chips are of the following:

1GB 1Rx8 PC2-6400U-666-12
HYMP112U64CP8-S6 AB-C 0921
hynix KOREA 03

&

2GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400U-666-12-E3
M378T5663EH3-CF7 0920
Samsung Made in China

Then, after a few more attempts I managed to get the monitor to respond again, but obviously it was running at a significantly slower rate...
Since the brands of the RAM doesnt really matter and the 1GB chip actually fits the 2GB one, I do not have a need to change the 1GB RAM right?
Now my other problem is that sometimes, the monitor does not respond even though the cpu is running, I am suspecting that might be a fault in the wires, but I am not entirely sure...
Actually, you would help me a lot just by suggesting if I still should change my 1GB RAM chip.
Hope that makes it clearer a bit. Thanks :D

Hi,

You have the latest BIOS from HP!

Can you see a setting for: -

CAS Latency

If so set it to 4 or 5 or 6 & test for the BSOD again if all is well then your sorted.

Otherwise it is the RAM module combination that doesn't work together.

Hi,

Well it's not showing as a setting available in my HP Pheonix BIOS v5.18. So, I'm not sure where to go now!

Are the memory modules the original set of 3Gig from new?
