Solved Vista Recovery

Hi all,

I recently tried to install kubuntu alongside vista but I accidentally wiped out vista completely. I think all my files and programs were wiped out (which is OK because I backed them up first) but I cant seem to get vista back. When I uninstalled kubuntu my computer wouldn't boot at all, but I managed to install a different version of ubuntu and now I can boot into ubuntu but still not vista. I already made system recovery disks for vista but I lost them. I tried system recovery by pressing F11, but nothing happens and it just boots into ubuntu. As far as I know the recovery partition was untouched, so can I use this to reinstall vista? Or do I have to buy a whole new OS?

I am using an HP pavilion d6, windows vista home premium 64-bit.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome
It sounds like when you installed or uninstalled the other OS, you removed Vista, too. There are only three options open to you:

Try a factory recovery. You said that this has been tried and failed.

The seond option is to use a reinstallation DVD, that you have to reinstall, borrow or buy one
for cost from the manufacturer of your computer. You need the key number for this.

The third way is to buy an upgrade version of Seven (if your computer can handle Seven
and perform a clean install

Thanks so much for your response. I'll just order the recovery discs from HP's website, for $15 that's not too bad.
P.S. Just a warning to everyone about installing kubuntu, be very careful. I've installed different versions of linux before and they always allow me to partition my hard drive and install linux alongside windows. I've never had a problem with this before. But with kubuntu it's different. It automatically installed to my windows partition and I lost windows without any warning and without being able to change anything. Be very careful with kubuntu.
