Post system recovery -blank blue screen

I have an hp desktop with the main hdd and 2 additional hdd's for storage.
I started getting signs of a disk problem, got error 100a, then drive died. I used the system recovery disks that came with the computer, backed up important stuff, then installed a new hard drive. I ran system recovery on it, then when complete, I removed the disk and rebooted. Got black screen with failed boot message.

I put the recovery disk back in and now, after it's "loading files" screen, I end up with a blank blue screen with only the mouse's cursor. The cd drive stops and nothing changes.

Tried rebooting several times. Same result.

bios recognizes the disk and the boot order is correct.

Help?

I can only tell you about the system as it is currently as responsive as a paperweight.
So, x64, original installation ( of course until I ran system recovery then changed out the drive that held the os) about 4 yrs old. OEM.

When you say recovery disc, do you mean installation disc?

It sounds as though you still have a hard drive problem. Can you take it out again and then reinstall, see if its better?

Will do that next.

Since I started this thread, it brought up the system recovery screen again. I want thru the 3-disk process again. At the end, it says remove the disk and press enter. When I did that, the unit rebooted and I got a black screen with "disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter. Loops back to Recovery Manager screen.

Harrooomphh...

Back on the floor I go.

Will update later.

Thanks so much richc46. I'll let you know.

Had to go out. Just got back. Will reseat drive after finishing hardware tests.
Drive is a new seagate barracuda 500GB. not. Refurb or a cheapie, but I know that doesn't guarantee anything.

Hardware diagnostics likes the new disk. Of course my 2 gig failed, but that's because I have it unplugged -didn't want to run the risk of reformatting THAT one.

Blue screen resolved but I continue to be in a loop of running the System Recovery then booting from the hdd only to get the boot failure message. Have checked bios for correct boot order (cd then hd). Have reseated hd and checked all cables.
I am stumped.

Perhaps the CD is not bootable or defective.

It seems to be doing what it's supposed to do. It's just that when it tells me it is done and wants the unit to boot without the cd in the drive, it fails.
