Only 690 mB of available RAM. I'd suggest getting more RAM (you only have 2 gB - which is minimum for Vista SP2) While waiting to get more RAM, please trim your startup items and only run one program at a time.

You have a Belkin wireless USB adapter. Win7 systems have problems with these devices - but I can't recall problems with Vista. I'd suggest keeping an eye on it - just in case.

And, from the memory dumps, your rt73.sys driver dates from 2005. It's probably not Vista compatible and it belongs to Ralink 802.11 USB Wireless Adapter Driver (most likely the chipset for your Belkin wireless USB device) Please visit the Belkin or the Ralink websites in order to get the most current Vista compatible driver.

StarOpen.sys dates from 2006 and is most likely associated with AT&T, Verizon, and/or Virgin - StarOpen/VideoNow Media Wizard/RPS Burn by Hasbro
Please update this program or remove (uninstall) it from your system

LogMeIn Remote drivers date from 2007/2008 Please uninstall this program.

cbfs.sys is a driver component of Callback File System and dates from 2008. Please update this program also.

My Computer

No malware found from the test I done.

Attempted to use Revo Uninstaller and the Microsoft one in order to locate Avira but it's not able to find it, therefore I can't uninstall this; what to do?

Thanks SO much for the whole package though, will get around to downloading the new drivers when I've finished with this Avira business ;P

PS: Is it advisable to remove all the old drivers from Device Manager before downloading updates or will it merely replace the old? And also, in regards to Belkin, I swear I've tried updating it last year and during the update the internet goes off and you can't get it back without system restore - do I need to download and then turn off internet before installing?

Try the Avira uninstaller from this link: Antivirus Uninstallers

When you're having problems it's always advisable (IMO) to remove before installing new. A few years back there were issues with installers not overwriting all the driver files (if they were the same version). This allowed corruption to stay in the system and it's why we recommend uninstalling the old stuff first.

As for the Belkin adapter - I don't like those devices. A wireless card that plugs into your motherboard is much stronger, more reliable, and more robust.

I'd suggest uninstalling the Belkin software and removing the device from your system temporarily (use a very long wire for a time if you have to). You can also purchase a pc card to plug into your motherboard and use that for a few days (make sure you can return it if it's not needed).

Can't seem to budge the Avira folder in Program Files, tried the 'Take Ownership' registry but I still can't seem to 'have the permissions' to remove the folder; I am the full admin and only user of the computer.

Check to make sure that Avira isn't loading (you can use Autoruns for this)
Then let's just wait and see if you need to remove anything else.
If you get another BSOD, zip up the memory dump and post it here for us to have a look at.

My Computer

Unfortunately didn't work - however, installed clean update into same folders, it re-wrote and then uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller to ensure full removal.

Now re-installing and doing full system scan! Thanks a bunch for the help, keep thread open for a week and I'll drop by if problems occur?

RaLink adapter still dates from 2005. You MUST uninstall the software for your wireless USB Device and physically remove it from the system. You can either use a wire, or a wireless card that plugs into your motherboard if you need an internet connection while testing (recommended).

Have you updated the CallBack File System? The driver still dates from 2008.

Your wired network adapter driver needs updating also, it dates from 2007
Your graphics adapter (video card) needs updating also, it dates from 2008.

Please run Driver Verifier using these directions: Driver Verifier Settings

My Computer

Removed those drivers, then had a blue screen this morning which didn't create a mindump file, however I'd noticed the CallBack driver still hadn't removed itself. Now removed and all is good again.

As for the Driver Verifier thing, I haven't got the DVD installation so if it all goes wrong, will I ever get this thing loading again? :P

PS. I've been noticing that there seems to be a trend between Spotify and my computer going into blue screen. Known Vista conflict?

Most conflicts with Vista have been worked out over the years (as long as you have the most recent version).

As for a startup disk, watch for a PM from me.....

My Computer

Hi again, sorry about the lack of reply in regards to what you've asked me to do - been doing an essay and will hopefully get that done tomorrow. For today however, I'm having a lot of 'black outs' and turns off when I go to watch a video/go on Spotify. However, it's not making any minidumps and isn't a particular BSOD.

I think I may have installed a incorrect driver for the audio/video drivers that isn't compatible with Vista? Will get that thing done tomorrow and hopefully this will tell.

No problem about the reply, I get an email when you do reply - so I don't spend any time waiting around! :0)

As for the driver, let's see what's going on in the system. Please generate a fresh set of the jcgriff2 reports so we can see what's hanging up in the event viewer logfiles.

Aha, I see.

And here you are!

It's got both the new one and old files in there from my last one - thought you'd be fine and might be easier for you to compare/see? If not, just ask and I'll give you a 'fresh' one.

ASPI32.sys has issues loading. It belongs (most likely) to an older CD/DVD program on your system.
Please uninstall it.

Try running sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt.

Uninstall, download a fresh copy, then reinstall Spotify.

How can I uninstall it - can't locate it in Device Manager. Not sure if I can just literally delete the file or if that causes more issues.

Scan showed no issues and done that to Spotify. Thanks.

Don't just delete it (you can try renaming it if you can get back into the disk to rename it - if the system doesn't boot).

Recently the worst thing that happened was that the CD driver disappeared on a users system. Renaming the file back restored the drive.

To get back in to rename the file - do you have a disk that'll allow you to access the Command Prompt through Startup Repair?

My Computer

Not going to lie, I don't know which disc it's associated with. As far as I'm aware I've only ever used Football Manager and MAGIX Music Maker on here.

As for disc to gain access to command prompt, I can access command prompt now the normal way? My computer is working?

If you rename the file and reboot, the system may not boot for you.
If that's the case, then you'll need a disk that you can boot to a Command Prompt with.

To do that, you'll need to create a System Repair Disk. To do that, go to Start, then to Maintenance, then to Create a System Repair Disc - and follow the instructions to create the disk. Then test it to be sure that you can boot from it.

After doing all of that, then you can rename the file (which will prevent it from loading).
Then, if it doesn't boot, you can rename it back and the system will boot again.
