BSOD at random times (screen flickering)

Hi all,

I have a Windows Vista Laptop that has numerous problems on. So I thought I would try and solve a few of them, with no luck. So hopefully with a few of you guys here, we can :)

Anyway,

Basically, my screen keeps flickering and what not, not a typical BSOD. Although when I logged in this morning, it said it had recovered from a BSOD...
I loaded up BlueScreenView and found this errors, please find attached picture,

Here are the dump files attached:

Thank you for your help :)

Okay, Thanks.

Although that's in windows 7 forum? It doesn't matter does it..?

I've done a clean install now, so I'll read through the article and test a few things.

Thanks

Does not matter Seven or Vista, they are the same with this problem. I gave you the Seven write up because that is the only one that we have. Seven is our sister forum.

Hi,

I've updated the drivers. Ran a RAM test - No errors.

The screen's not been playing up.. but when I press down on the keyboard )middle of the keyboard) quite hard or press a button pretty hard then the screen will temporary go blue. Does this mean it's a hardware error? The laptop is Dell XPS M1330.

Thanks
Damian

Try to do that in safe mode. If the problem happens its most likely hardware.

Hi Rich,

Booted it into safe mode and didn't happen. Then back in normal mode and it stayed normal. The problem comes and go's though.

Went into memory diagnostics and tried to run a hardware diagnostics, and it kept going to a light blue screen...

Thanks

If you ran it long enough in safe mode (which I doubt) and it does not happen its not hardware.
Try safe mode, again. Keep it in safe mode for an amount of time that would give you a BSOD, try to use the computer in safe mode. If no problem it is not hardware. But your reports show that it is hardware. Try to take the hardware tests.

Hi,

I ran the diagnostics tool. Every test passed par 2. 2 to do with the hard drive...
error 1:
"error code 0147
msg: Error code 2000 - 0147
msg: unit 0:optical drive Bist - opu test failed"

error 2:
"error code 0f00:1A44
msg: Disk_0_block 130332555
uncorrectable data error or media is write protected"

also left it running in safe mode.... and no random flickering of the screen.

Thanks
Damian

Did you run all the tests as shown in my prior post (Code 124)?

Use the computer and send me any additional reports. To date I have only one report and that was code 124, hardware. Send additional reports, which may differ or offer additional clues.

Hi Rich,

Been busy and on holiday past month or so..

Started using the laptop again yesterday after long time of not touching it and was so so so faulty, just couldn't get it to work. So opened it up and unscrewed the fan and screwed it back on (it has a part which covers the CPU and video card) since then it has improved...

Now it said it has recovered from a serious error (aka BSOD)
Although now, the screen has gone completely. White screen on the external monitor also...
here are the files:

The code given is video related. If you can with that computer start by updating your graphics driver.

Hi Rich,

I downloaded 3 different drivers to install onto the laptop. The first was for a laptop and this didn't work. The other didn't work. But the third one, which is built for a desktop (thought, no harm in trying) has worked and the driver version it's up to is 8.17.something. And for around couple of hours, there has been no problems..... maybe fixed?!

Thanks
