Vista 32bit BSOD - Yet another one..

Hi all, I appreciate it very much if anyone could help me out a bit here. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720. In the past I had regularly BSODs (always in waves) and therefore I decided recently to format my computer again. I did it three times in one week, because it refused to install both of the service packs and the .NET Framework by itself, even when tried manually, so the last the I resolved by immediately after formatting installing them myself and then start looking for the update on Windows Update, which seemed to work fine. Just two updates that I don't render very important fail again and again.
Unfortunately the BSODs started again after two days and even more frequently then before. The last two days it's mostly SPECIAL_POOL_CORRUPTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION. BlueScreenView mostly points out ntkranpla.exe, hal.dll and once ecache.sys.

I will attach the minidump files. Hopefully anyone of you can give me some advice what to do, because like this it's no fun.

I have McAfee on my computer, by the way. Maybe it's totally irrelevant, but I believe it can sometimes be the source of problems.

Thank you very much,
Erik

My Computer

By the way, a few curiosities that may be related with the problem or not. Regularly when I start the computer with my external hard disk plugged in, Windows doesn't continue loading until I remove the cable.

Also I randomly get error messages from Windows saying that either Superfetch, Windows Host Processes or my Dell WLAN Card stopped working. In the last case I can still continue using internet normally, however.

Thank you!
Memtest86+ is now running on my main laptop. It goes surprisingly fast, after 6 minutes I'm already at test #6 and Pass 28%. That's normal?

Also I did find only one part that I could take out, though Memtest finds two "Memory SPD Informations", Slot 0 and Slot 1, both 1024 MB and both named the same. Does this mean there should be two? Sorry if it is a stupid question, but I never opened my laptop before.

My Computer

Not normal, the test is suggested to be done over night, it takes time.
Not sure about the second part of the question.

I'm sorry, I think I looked at the wrong place. In the row with WallTime, Cached, Errors, etc. it also says Pass. There it says 0 now. You probably meant that to be at least 6, right? Not the Pass with a percentage on top of the screen.

It tells me that the Memory is 2038M 2050 MB/s. I have the impression that he regards it as 2x1024 MB on one stick. Is that possible? It's quite small inside, so it would be hard to miss if there should have been another stick..

My Computer

Traditionally, 2x1024 means two sticks of 1024 each.

I would assume so too, but there was only one part in my hand.. I also don't really understand why it says 2038MB, shouldn't that be 2048MB.

Memtest is running well. It just switched to Pass1, 0 Errors so far. In fact, I wouldn't really mind if he finds an error, because this problem is already slowly getting worse over the last three years. If buying new RAM would solve it, then I would be happy.

My Computer

Lets not worry about the first part of your question for now, lets see what the results say.

So I just had it running all night, 15 hours in total, amounting up to 17 passes. He didn't find any error. This is all the information from the screen:

Pentium E 1596 MHz
L1 Cache: 32K 22472 MB/s
L2 Cache: 1024K 10428 MB/s
L3 Cache: None
Memory: 2038M 2050 MB/s

Settings: RAM 266 MHz (DDR532) / CAS 4-4-4-12 / Dual Channel

WallTime: 15:00:00 (aprox)
Cached: 2038<
RsvdMem: 0K
MemMap: e820
Cache: on
ECC: off
Test: Std
Pass: 17
Errors: 0
ECC Errs: -

Is there anything useful in this?

By the way, since restarting McAfee is totally out of control. I don't know if that has any connection with it.

In the past I mostly got the errors BAD_POOL_CALLER and IRLQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Now it's almost exclusively SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION.

Thank you.

Here is the latest one. I had only one blue screen so far this morning, so only the last minidump is new. Again it was SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION.

Your reports are consistently code c1. This is either memory or a driver. Does not look like a driver. You now have to test each stick alone, for 6 passes.

All I have to go by are the reports that you give me. Most of them point to memory.
Here is your last report. They all say c-1. The codes are called bug checks. Each bug check has a list of potential causes. C-1 can be caused by a driver or memory. If you want to test your drivers let me know. The code and my experience, say memory.

I'm running CHKDSK now on my Dell laptop, so for the next hour I cannot do much. I would like to do every test possible to find the cause of this problem, but honestly I wouldn't know how to test different RAM sticks if I can only find one. I assume they should be located at the same place, right? I can open my laptop again after the CHKDSK..

How would it be possible to test the drivers? Just in case.

My Computer

To test the drivers, you take a driver verifier test. It puts stress on the drivers. Any corrupt or weak ones will cause a BSOD. We update all the drivers that are causing the BSODs.
If you can see one stick, you should see them all.

Well, I can do that anyway, if only to exclude the possibility of the drivers being the problem. Is there any particular driver verifier test that is recommended?

Thanks for you help so far. It's very much appreciated.
