RunDLL Error on Startup

Hi,

I'm getting a runDLL error upon startup on my friends Dell Inspiron laptop, which runs Vista. The error is:

"Error in C:\Users\Katie\AppData\Local\IM Providers\pqholeht.dll
Missing entry:??CIcdSpiAuto@@QAE@XZ"

This pops up right after startup, and after about a minute, I'm sent back to the log in screen. I'm not sure what to do, I ran MBAM which removed 40 trojans, but this error still appears upon startup. Can someone help please?

Thanks! :)

Hi thePete,

In case if the steps mentioned by kinghthood do not work then, try to perform system restore in safe mode. Please refer to the following article to perform system restore: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

If you are unable to login in safe mode, follow the steps to perform system restore:

1. Restart the computer.
2. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears.
3. Ensure that Repair Your Computer is selected. Press Enter.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions and perform system restore to a date when the computer was working fine.

NOTE: With system restore you will not lose any data from the computer, any new programs installed in the computer has to be reinstalled on the computer.

Please post the results.
