Welcome
Lets try this solution for a CRC error
How to Fix Cyclic Redundancy Check in Vista | eHow.com
If that does not work, try to boot in safe mode. If that, also, is not possible, this may be a hardware problem.

Thanks for the reply. However the suggested solution is probably the right one ... however to do that and others you need to be able to start/access/boot the OS. Right now I've gone from DISK BOOT FAILURE - I could use my bootable hardware disk to access basics. I now get ERROR LOADING OS.

Test your hard drive to be sure.
Download and test with Crystal. Be sure to pick the right download, the page is full of all kinds of stuff.
CrystalDiskMark - Software - Crystal Dew World
If your hard drive is ok, run a SFC. If that is ok, I would think you are OK for now.

Okay will do. Regardless I'd say the original issue has been resolved. I'll do the suggested maintenance and tests you gave bit later. I have to dig out from a snowstorm first. :D

Well close but no cigar. I'm in Eastern Canada, PEI nice place to vacation lol except in winter. But on a serious note. I have no idea what to look for or for that matter which test to use. I have a screen shot here of one run I did early this afternoon. I'll do the checkdisk test late this evening as I know it takes a while to do. Post those tomorrow. Thank you again for your assistance.

I think I'm postponing the inevitable re: restore/reformat.

One other thing that happens quite often is Windows Explorer crashes. Especially when i go view pictures.

Just wondering if u had any ideas. Thanks again.

After you download Crystal Disc, it will tell you if your HD is is good condition or you have problems.
The SFC will tell you if you have errors that cannot be fixed.
They are both very easy and user friendly, you will not have a problem with the analysis.
