Solved Laptop shuts down and restarts with blue screen

Hi,

I have a HP Compaq Presario C700 Notebook PC purchased new and have had it about three years. For last month or so it has sometimes shut down and then restarted with a blue screen message. It's happened when I play music files and, and also a few times when a program freezes and I hit CTRL+ALT+Delete to open the Task Manager. Tonight it happened when the HP automatic product identification application hung and I then tried to open Task Manager; the computer shut down and restarted with the blue screen message.

The blue screen message is only briefly visible, so I can't get any of it other than something about "If this is the first time you've seen this message...." Then the desktop appears and there's the following, "Windows has shut down unexpectedly" and the option to find out more about the event. Three times I've copied the words describing the event and the first part of the message is the same each time:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 8086
BCP1: 00000000
BCP2: 00000000
BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6002
Service Pack: 2_0
Product: 768_1

The second part of each description of the problem is different:

First time it happened:
Files that help describe the problem:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini052813-01.dmp
C:\Users\D____\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-49140-0.sysdata.xml

C:\Users\D____\AppData\Local\Temp\WERCD8B.tmp.version.txt

Second time:

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini061813-02.dmp
C:\Users\D____\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-154113-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\D____\AppData\Local\Temp\WERA10F.tmp.version.txt

Third time:
Files that help describe the problem:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini062513-01.dmp
C:\Users\D____\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-48001-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\D____\AppData\Local\Temp\WERE54F.tmp.version.txt

There is the message:
Solve a problem with Intel IMSM driver
Intel IMSM driver has stopped working properly.
Tap or click todownload the update from the ASUSTex Computer website

The download is called V8.9.2.1002_logo_Win7Vista3264. I keep downloading and installing the driver.

I can upload the minidump file if that might help. I checked system information and found this: Available Physical Memory 820 MB. I know nothing about memory, but thought this might be a very limited amount. Any help would be very much appreciated. I'm worried that my PC is going to die on me if I don't resolve the blue screen problem.

Thanks for your reply. When I looked for the files that should be in the C:\Users\Dawna\AppData\Local\Temp folder, the folder isn't there. I'm sure of this. These are files under "Files that help describe the problem:" There are supposed to be a total of six of them- two for each of the three times I recorded the information about the blue screen event. (There have been more blue screen events that I didn't record the information for.)

There was only one .DMP file in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini052813-01.dmp and I've included it as an attachment. It's dated 7/6/2013 which is the day the last blue screen event happened.

I hope this helps.

Sorry about that! I'll try again. I copied and pasted the .DMP file into notepad and saved on my desktop and will try to upload it and also try adding a link to Sendspace file sharing where I just uploaded it directly from C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\mini070613-01. Hopefully one of these will work. Is it possible I have to create a .zip file of the .DMP file to upload it?

I had some trouble following the instructions. I hope the results are OK. If not, please bear with me and I'll keep trying to get the needed information and correctly upload it.

Also- I know nothing about interpreting my computer's system information, but I'm wondering available physical memory. My computer's available physical memory is 633 MB. I this something that I should be concerned about?

You did good, my friend, we have the inforation that we need.
There was only one dmp file, as you said, but more are many
According to that one, the problem is an intel driver. Go to the Intel site and update drivers

Iastor.sys
Productname: Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver
Description: Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver
Company: Intel Corporation
File size: Various

I thank both of your for your replies. I wonder, though, why the recommended solution to the problem after every blue screen event has been to install the Intel IMSM. I've done this several times.... I'll install the Iastor.sys driver or the set of drivers from the HP website. Thanks for the link. I'll mark this as being solved.

We use sophiscated, more accurate software to read the dmps. Sometimes it does take several dumps, however.
Good luck.
