Solved If I Get A BSOD On Every Boot - How Can I Follow Your BSOD Protocol?

Dell Dimension 4600 gives me a BSOD with the IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL and stop code 0x0A. Since the tower doesn't seem to stay in a non-BSOD mode long enough for me to give you the information you require for BSODs, I'm at a loss.

It seems to be an equal opportunity crash - it doesn't matter if it's normal, low-res mode, safe mode or safe mode with networking. It always boots to the desktop, and then I get maybe 5 minutes at most before it BSODs on me. It even BSODs when it's doing nothing more than sitting at my destop screen, with no applications running and no internet activity.

Before it started crashing regularly, I was able to download something called a BlueScreenViewer, which lists all the Minidumps, and the driver that caused it. I've been able to view the screen for about a minute or so before it crashes, and they all seem to be caused either hal.dll drivers or something that starts with ntk... (I believe)

This is obviously being posted from a different PC....

So that we can rule out problems with the computer and be sure that it is software, try in safe mode. If it works in safe mode, give us this information.

I edited my original post, highlighting the second paragraph, where I indicate that the kind of boot I perform makes no difference to the problem.

I was able to bring up the BlueScreenViewer for a long enough period to provide the name of the the other driver that it says caused the crash - it's ntkrnlpa.exe along with the previously mentioned hal.dll

I am beginning to think it is hardware. Turn off the computer, turn on speakers, any beeps heard?

I don't understand you. When I turn off the computer, the speakers lose their power as well. If, while the computer is off, I turn the speakers on I hear no beeps because the speakers have no power, and thus no ability to 'beep'. I you mean 'Do I get any sounds while the computer is booting up?', well, yes... I get all the normal sounds a tower makes , followed by the 'Welcome' tune it plays as the desktop is being displayed. No memory problem beeping noises if that's what you mean.

Additionally, the last Blue Screen was not the IRQL Not Less Or Equal, it was PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, with a check code of 0x4e. The offending driver was ntkrnlpa.exe

Don't go by that. Check for the beeps as suggested.

I was able to get the SF Diagnostics on the problem PC and I added it to the 'No Beeps' post using Edit, then I saved it. I see the paper clip on my post, so I assume it's there.

As an addendum, the computer has now been on for at least 5 hours without a crash. I started it in safe mode with command prompt. Dunno why that seems to work...

My Computer

If you can get it to work in safe mode. It is a driver and not hardware. We have to try to find out which one. Can you follow the instructions that I gave you earlier.?

I followed the instructions - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.
The SF-07-11-2013 zip file should be somewhere. I see the paper clip.

LOL You may have sent it to another Forum, it is not here.

I was joking about the other Forum. The post should appear in your post in this section

Try #5

This is absurd!!!!! When I edit the post, I see boweasel.zip under Manage Attachments. When I look at the topic list in Crashes and dEbugging I see the paper clip on the line with my subject. Yet I see nothing here....

May I respectfully suggest, If there is someone that you know that may be able to help, have him or her try to post the information. Sometimes new eyes can see something that another set may miss.

I am going to start a new thread with nothing in it but the zip file.

My Computer

BSOD zip file

Here is the zip file I was unable to upload in my original; thread.

If there is no zip file attached to this post, then either your upload instructions in the forum are so unclear that they're useless, or I am a complete idiot who should be kept away from electronics.
