problems after a full restore

I have just had to do a full restore of my PC (puts PC back to original condition as when purchased) and while my McAfee shows as up to date it is not the same as before the restore as follows:
When I right click on a file it used to show the McAfee logo and the choice of scan or shred now it shows only scan. Also when loaded the security centre used to show a window with 4 squares one each for Internet, email, computer, parent controls and on the right side a list of tools which included navigate ( or simular) which when clicked would show various things including shredder this is missing how do I get back to the window that I used to have?

When I try to get onto McAfee forums I get “IE cannot display this page”

My Vista updates say I am up to date these are the latest that I installed.

Any suggestions please.

Actually, this is a rather strange problem with only a few possible answers.
The first is that your new McAfee is an up to date version that is different from the previous.
The second is that you now have a corrupt AV, uninstall using the uninstall tool, boot and reinstall
How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)
Make sure that you are using the most up to date browser. This is a very likely cause of the problem, since you cannot even get into the Forum bit you show IE9. which is, however, up to date. Did you have IE 9 before the restore?
Isn't there a Window Live Essential 2012?
The last security update that shows, in your post, is actually a May 2014 update, which tells me you are not really up to date.

Yes I had IE9 before restore and no special problems with it.
I have found a few Window updates that failed unfortunately my pics of them won’t upload as too much traffic on the local wire, is it possible to remove all window updates and start again without having to do a full restore of PC ?
As I was writing this I noticed a second McAfee logo appear in the taskbar when viewed it said I was not protected but hitting the FIX button produced nothing at all, I rebooted and it said I was protected.
I have this second logo appearing now and again it refers to the original program that came with the PC and when this (McAfee) was renewed for the first time about 5 years ago I was presented with a complete new and separate program the original has never been removed even after restore as it is part of the original set up.

I think that you have to write down all the information that is needed to download the paid McAfee, then uninstall boot and install with the subscription information. I think that what you have now is a hybrid of the old and the new
If it were me, I would use the free Avast instead. In fact that is what I do. I feel there is no need to pay for something that can be used for free. If you do not like Avast, you can always go back.

Unfortunately I have just paid for my next 12 mths but never mind, btw what can you do if:
a. an update fails
b. you discover update failures a few days later.
I am referring to Windows updates.

Even if you just paid. You can uninstall, boot and then install again. There has to be a provision for such a move. For example if you need a new hard drive you will have to reinstall the AV and you would not have to pay again.
If you want to uninstall an update

Before you uninstall make a System Restore point. Some members have complained of problems after uninstalling.
If you uninstall, in theory, you will be offered the Update again.
As far as just paying, if you can use something just as good it makes no difference if it is paid, that money is gone either way. I know someone that was able to get a refund on a new subscription by calling the company. If you are interested it would not hurt to try.

With windows updates all are basically available as downloads Here - It's a long list but if you make a note of the KB number(s) you need you can search the list and download the individual update(s) you need :)

Hi,

Look here for an option on how to restore the menu option: -

KB69978=LIST

If Shredder is installed it will appear in the Context Menu, i.e. the right-click menu - so it's easy to shred a file or a folder if you wish to/

Is shedder installed?

Thanks to all...... I will try your suggestions I just feel that neither Vista or McAfee is up to date even when I am told that they are.
I will let you know the outcome even if it takes a few days

Remember in post #1 I said I could not access any McAfee forums or even my account because IE said page not available etc it blocked all McAfee sites to me so I have just reinstalled Firefox and can get whatever I want but still showing both Viasta and McAfee as up to date so I have made some progress, I stuck with IE because I was familiar with it but will stay with FF and see what happens

I did the DELL restore and find that I now have SP3 see at bottom of list yet still getting updates for SP1 ? any way at the moment all seems OK and am up to date according to Windows updater

Latest as 4.12.14.JPG

still had trouble with McAfee suit in that the original version was installed and even with the MCPR removal tool the new version would not install so tried Virtual technician and that said there were errors that it could not fix. I got hold of a McAfee Technician via chat and he was excellent he had to take over PC but I could follow his moves boy was he quick I just could not keep up with him but McAfee now back on track, Providing that Vista is in fact up to date all should be well. Thanks everyone.
