dvd player problems!!

ive been running vista 32 bit for a while now and havent really had any problems untill today when i tried installing call of duty 4.. i put it in and then nothing the dvd drive seemed to try reading it then gave up.. when i go to my computer it sees that there is a dvd player and it says drivers are up to date.. but when i try to open files on the dvds it says insert dvd and im like wtf? i did.. is it a driver problem or whats going on?? help please :cry:

this is a drive issue
i.e my pioneer drive will read testdrive unlimited yet my samsung will reed the disc but show that there is no disc in the drive
i read that updating firmware (not drivers) can solve this problem but its not reccomended
i would recomend you get a new drive
