Virtual CD for X64

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a driver/program which will create a virtual CD? I have tried a few but they do not function in Vista X64 OS.

Thanks,
Val

Try the newer version of Alcohol 120%, or, if you don't want to buy the full package, try it's lesser sibling, Alcohol 52% which is free

I'm using Alcohol 52%, but only because I don't need to built-in CD/DVD writing facilities of Alcohol 120% (I use Nero 8 for that). I use MagicISO to make industry-standard ISO images that can be used with both Alcohol "vritual drives" and Nero 8.

Both will work on Vista x86 and x64.

Get it here : http://www.alcohol-soft.com/

Re: Virtual CD for X64

Nice program, thanks Peter. The only thing I was hoping it would do was to be able to create a virtual blank CD which I could use. Alcohol only copies CD images into the virtual CD.

Regards,
Val

There is "Virtual CD 9", (http://www.virtualcd-online.com/), but it costs US$89.00, and does not support industry standard images, such as ISO or IMG, which pretty much makes it useless - this is why i didn't mention it before. Another issue I had with it was that even after uninstalling the trial version, any external drive (HDD or USB stick) that I plugged in always picked up as a "Virtual DVD ROM" if the drive was assigned the same letter as was originally given to the virtual writer.

The next best option is perhaps to use MagicISO (http://www.magiciso.com/) to create ISO images that can also be used with Alcohol 52%. It's not an ideal solution, but it get's the job done.
