Vista - HP dv9815nr Ethernet Driver

hey new to the forum as a result of this problem. i reinstalled vista ultimate on my laptop with the real deal of vista ultimate (i hate all that crap HP added), anyway ive got all my drivers loaded, but for some reason under device manager my ethernet controller is being listed under other devices and is exclaimed. ive tried looking for the proper drivers on HP's website, but i couldnt find them. ive tried installing ethernet controller drivers that i thought would work, but no dice.

the system carries an nforce chipset so its obviously some type of nvidia ethernet controller driver. can anybody help with this problem?

yeah ive seen those drivers, all of them are loaded witht he exception of the ethernet controller drivers, those drivers dont exist on that page. they used to have them on the page, but they no longer do.

In 'Device Manager', what does it show if you expand 'Network adapters'? This might give a clue as to where we need to look for the missing device. I would suspect that it will be either 'Broadcom' or 'Atheros' as they are listed in the 'Driver - Network' section of the link I gave you in my previous post. I provide links to the main Web pages for both of these - you will have to browse the sites yourself to see if you can locate anything. If it shows anything different, please reply with full details of what it says.

well, i was able to get the problem solved, basically through more searching and a bunch of time, and the trial and error method. the correct driver was found within HP's website but not on the dv9815nr page. for anybody else that has this problem the correct softpaq through HP for the nforce ethernet controller is sp36213.

Well, not necessarily - as dmex pointed out you have a choice between one of *two* different manufacturers when getting that system - so that driver worked for *you* and anyone with the same card as you, but will not work for people who have the other card.

right, which is why i listed the model number of the laptop dv9815nr and the specific problem was an nvidia nforce ethernet controller, which that piece of software is specifically for. unless theirs another dv9815nr with another chipset and ethernet controller, but from my understanding it this specific model of notebook comes with an nvidia chipset with an nforce ethernet controller, and an atheros wireless card.
