Help!! My device driver for my cd/dvd-rom has stopped working. When I go to device manager, there is a yellow exclamation point next to it. It was working perfectly fine a week ago. I have checked for solutions and possible driver updates to no avail. If someone could tell me what I can do to fix this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. Please make sure that it is in a simple, step-by-step format. I'm still learning about computers. Thanks.

Hi KendaraKatze,
Have you tried the following:
Go to Device Manager and right click on the CD/DVD-Rom drive and choose "uninstall" then restart the computer and Windows should reinstall it for you. Hopefully with the error gone.

I'm currently experiencing the same problem. I'm on an Inspiron E1505 laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit installed. I did what Raj said about uninstalling the driver (the one with the yellow ! by it), and then restarted my computer. However, upon the computer restarting, it attempted to reinstall the driver but instead I got a "Device driver software was not successfully installed." (For the record, the driver I need is TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D ATA Device.)

I've tried installing drivers for it by other means, too, but whenever I run the .exe program, it says "Drivers not found!!" or something to that effect.

Any other advice?

You can download the drivers for your drive from here:

Drivers and Downloads

OR

Download & run merge the following file to the registry. Make sure that you save the file on the desktop & then merge it.

Holy crap, it actually worked! The second one, that is. (The driver that you gave me was doing the same thing as before -- only popping up with a "Drive not found!!" message and then not doing anything.) But the file I merged actually worked! Wow!

Thank you so much! You just saved me a lot of hassle! ♥

Did u run the cdgone.reg file & then see if the issue was there or not. If still the issue persists then try booting through the windows vista dvd. And we can check if the hardware is functional or not.

I have a Gateway TSST corp TS-L632H cd/dvd giving me the burn disc error 2131 in Itunes which is a new error for me. I ran driver check and it said the most current. I uninstalled the drive, powered off. Powered back on and it reinstalled the drive - BUT SAME ERROR. Any ideas?

Did you by any chance install iTunes on your pc? My device stopped working after installing iTunes, and nothing I tried worked. I simply uninstalled iTunes, and things were back to normal automatically - device working as before.

Maybe it might work for you too! Good luck.

i did have itunes intalled then uninstalled it and thats when my problems started.....now to get my disk drive to work i have to restart my computer each time i put a disk in for it to read it

im having a problem with my disc tray not reading anything or opening up except i can open it up manually and that is it. i had my own thread but i have recieved no help on it but i guess this is the thread its being discussed in i tried what you suggested in the first page but it didnt do anything for me i would like some help on this situation please and thanks for your time.

My Computer

Try to go in the system BIOS & check if the tray would open up or not. Try to re-seat the drive cable once & then try. If that also fails try to update the firmware of the drive.

When you start the system up or power on the system start hitting the F2 or Del key on the keyboard. And you are in the BIOS. Then try to open the cd drive using the button.
