hi im trying to install a bootable usb to install a dfi bios.
i did go into cmd and clean assign primary partition with diskpart.
im also using hp tool.
problem is with the hp tool it ask to do this -
"Then please go to “using DOS system files” column and add the link to where you stored the unzipped DOS boot up files. "
so my question is , where can i get the "dos boot up files" for vista64?
with the hp tool i need to locate the dos boot file address . so how do i do that?
do i have to download vista64 boot files?
every google links explains how to do this with xp . couldnt find any for vista. makes me feel like im the only person on the planet using vista.
im using corair voyager 4gb gt. and vista64. again im using vista not xp.
thanks.

Hi adya,

Vista does not use any dos boot files, you will need to find xp ones for this purpose...I also doubt you can properly update your bios using a USB drive as this is highly unsupported and untested, It would be better to use a floppy disk but you should have access to a windows based bios flash program, check your motherboard manufacturer website as they usually have one available ;)

thanks,
dfi uses winflash which is a windows based flash but doesnt work with most bios revs.
they recomended i use usb flash. many have done this but not with vista.
i dont have or want floppy though as its outdated tech. i dont want to go back to the 80s lol
ill try using xp boot files. are there any u would recomend for usb bootable?

Hey Adya,

You should be able to use any win98 and above boot files (Win98 are the easist but may not be compatible) Heres a good place I used to get them from many years ago ;) Bootdisk.Com - Free Windows Bootdisks, Free DOS boot disk

A bootable CD would work just as well....and, in fact, maybe the better option....

Unless you have a *really* old USB device that you'll never use for anything else again.
