need help updating drivers

So i used "driver detective" and it tells me that 4 drivers need to be updated...one of them was my nvidia card...i updated that myself...

the other 3 im having a really hard time trying to figure out...

one says high definition audio device...(i guess it doesnt give me alot of detail bcuz its the trial version of driver detective) i dont have a sound card...i have 6 channel onboard audio...i have a asus m3a motherboard...if that helps determine my problem any

the other two that need updated are:
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller

any help would be much appreciated...ive searched around for the drivers...but i dont really know what im looking for or where to look to be quite honest...

Re: need help updating drivers

Hi kapitald and welcome to the forums

I don't actually recommend the use of a program such as "driver detective". Instead, I periodically check the manufacturer's website for any updates. The only drivers that I update are the graphics and audio. Links to the relevant web sites for these are given below. Please can you fill in more details on your System Specs as this will help us with any further queries that you might have in the future.

From your motherboard (Asus M3A), I have determined that you have the Realtek ALC883 audio solution, which is high-definition audio.

Realtek

Since you haven't specified the actual model of your graphics card, this is the main download page from NVidia. You will need to fill in the correct details yourself.

Re: need help updating drivers

i have the asus pk5-e board and the other drivers are in a file called (infinst_autol.zip). i think i got it from (intel) . it's a set of updated drivers for your motherboard like the one that came on your install cd.

Re: need help updating drivers

UM....specs....I have Windows Ultimate 64bit SP1
AMD 9950 quad core processor
8.0 gb ram
Nvidia Geforce 8500gt
onboard 6ch sound

I dont know if this ram is compatible with my motherboard but it came with the computer when i bought it...I think they are DDR2-800 PC6400 ?? I think thats what i wrote down when i pulled one out...

So far every game Ive loaded crashes on me....command and conquer i got working by troubleshooting it for 3 days on "vista ready games forums"

Now i cant get world of warcraft to run...It loads my character up in the game and everything seems fine then when i start running or open a window (in-game) it locks up and freezes...the only way to get my computer running again is to press the reset button on the case....i cant get back to windows or anything...and when i reboot the pc i dnt get any error messages....(im sure theyre stored somewhere but idk where)

I tried updating my drivers through the device manager in windows...i clicked on each individual one and let windows search for driver updates online...is this update thru the device manager reliable? I mean does it actually find any updates? does it work?

I messed my pc up trying to update drivers...so i had to do a system restore...my system restore took off "driver detective" so thats a plus right? lol

please reply back i appreciate the help

Re: need help updating drivers

also new update....since my restore i had to put the new driver back on my nvidia card...so i went to the website which informed me i was running old and this was the new driver...i downloaded it and installed it...
now my busy light on the front of the computer wont go off...it stays constantly busy like the harddrive is searching for something or im running a scan...(or you know something that takes up memory but not cpu usage?> idk...
all i know is it wasnt doing that after my restore and thats the only thing ive done...

Re: need help updating drivers

Once you get the machine running right, the only thing you'll update with regularity are your graphics drivers. What you should be running are these: GeForce Release 175

As for constant crashes: Is this an OEM machine? Have you updated the bios yet? Are you overclocking anything? Is there any other sketchy software installed or was the driver "helper" it?

Re: need help updating drivers

I've installed the latest nvidia driver...175.19 my video card is up to date...and after i installed it my computer's busy light stays on like its running sumthing in the background i cant see?? Its working doing something but idk what...

i also used memtest86 as suggested by someone else...okay i did the memory test....it said it was complete and i can hit escape at 9 and a half hours...
it got to test #8 no errors at all...
i left all my sticks in (4 2gb sticks)
so that seems to be okay...except for it taking forever?? i went to sleep waiting on it lol...

i wonder if my audio needs updating?
