IDE drivers

I have installed a software which is known to put a PC into PIO mode. I tried to check what mode my PC was in. I go to the Device Manager>IDE/SATA section. There I can't find the primary IDE channel. I only have two ATA channel's at 0, one ATA channel at 1, and 2 Intel AHCI channel's.

Anyway, if my PC were to switch to PIO mode how can I get it back to this normal mode? The instructions on the net all say to look for this "IDE primary channel" but it's not there!!!! :'(

Re: IDE drivers

Hi nl4m,

The simplest solution would be to uninstall the software, however, since this software is known to cause problems with the IDE controllers, it cannot be guaranteed to uninstall correctly. Instead, use 'System Restore' to restore your system to a point prior to you installing this software. This will also restore your registry settings and should solve your problem.

Re: IDE drivers

There is no other way? And if system restore doesn't work, what next? I've used system restore many times before, but it never deleted any of my software or files.

On the net I've found 100 ways to get out of PIO mode. All of which require you finding is "Primary" channel. I can't find it on my Vista PC. It's easy to find it in XP, though.

And your right. Uninstalling it wont help, either. But *IF* I can remove this software would my IDE driver settings reset back to normal (DMA)????
