Vista - webcam problem

hey i have bought a gateway M-1628 with a built in webcam and when i open camera assistant software program. it shows nothing the light for the webcam comes on like its on. but it shows no image at all. with the program i can record sound but no video. i uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and still nothing. just wondering if there have been other problems. i have a Toshiba a while ago with the same program for the webcam just a little different and that one worked at first but just didn't work with messengers and later updated to work. but i can't find new updates of anything for the one i have now.

I have found this Webcam driver 6.2.218.524 version and Camera Assistant software 1.7.050.1029 version download at Gateway dated 6-11-2008 for both the 32 bit and 64 bit Vista. (last download listed)

yeah i been to those already. gateways website is were i redownloaded it and installed it. its the same version i have right now.

well i updated the driver. there was a new one but its still doing the same. the program opens, records audio displays blank. it DOES NOT say no images its just black.
