Hi carter48.

Does this device show up in the Device Manager?

1) Go to the Start Menu > Control Panel
2) Open up Device Manager
3) Take a look for your Camcorder

If it is not installed correctly, you will see a yellow exclamation point, and we will go from there.

Let me know how it goes!

Also, in your next post can you please provide some further information about your setup? I see you have "Vista Home 32bit" is this Home Premium or Home Basic? Also, what is the brand/model of your camcorder. Are you able to successfully connect other firewire devices with that port?

Thank you! Let's work together to fix this.

hi, thanks for the reply. the camcorder is a sony dcr hc 35. i got it in the uk. it looks like a lot of people have this trouble. the vista i use is home premium.
i habe tried the device manager root but it doesn't list the camcorder.
where next???

That was a hard one. OK download this: Picture Motion Browser Ver.2.0.13 for Windows Vista : Sony India
when you start the program it will ask you to put the Picture Packet CD in that came with the camera.
Or you can use a firewire card and cable that works on most vista editions. You can also use a Mem stick and load that in to a card reader. But the top one should work.

(32bit Vista ONLY.)

Nah sorry that's the end of my knowledge. I got about 7 different Cameras so I just use a Card reader. That always works.
