New Mouse and Keyboard

As a present this year I am getting a Logitech G9 Laser Mouse and a Logitech G15 Keyboard, but I am not sure how I am to install this stuff, I had problems last time with a different mouse in that, on reboot the pointer would not work and I had a hell of alot of bother, resulting in a format, some will remember this, this time I want to get it right.

So when I get the goods, do I install the software off the disk for both the mouse and keyboard? or do I get the latest from the Net? and what gets installed first, hardware plugged in or software first?

The answers may seem obvious to most, but not to me as I am scared of cocking things up yet again, and I want things to go nice and smooth :)

I saw both the mouse on a leaflet that was in the box of the Crysis Game and only noticed it the other night and loved the looks of them and what it said they do, but installing hardware with software is not my strong point at all.

I would download the latest software for the mouse and keyboard cause the disc software would be old and the new software has fixes that the disc wouldn't. I plugged in my mouse before I even installed the drivers for it windows will install the generic drivers so you can use the keyboard and mouse.

Hi mate,

Things is that I did what you did with plugging in the mouse with another one I had before putting the software in and Windows did'nt insall any generic driver hence the mouse would not respond and I was in a right pickle with it, so I am very nervous about it........I must have fomatted more than my alotted 5 times and so I am hoping that I do not need to resort to such drastic measures again lol

Don't get me wrong, my Vista is legit its just that I am not comfortable on the phone to anyone and avoid any and all most of the time, I know the activating can be done online, but after so many, I think its 5 isn't it? I may be wrong, you have to then ring up to get a new key

So I really hope this all goes well, I should have the stuff Thursday/Friday and am excited, but edgy too lol........this sort of thing is meant to be fun isn't it? not for me, I get to stressed lol

I have a G15 Keyboard and my only peeve is that I still haven't been able to get 64bit drivers for it. My G7 mouse was having issues but it turned out to be to many close connections to it, after re-arrengeing the other devices, it worked smoothly but I never had a problem with Vista not installing the generic drivers for it.

Perhaps once you install your G15 KB with Crysis, you can teach me how to set up the different Suit options so I can use 1 KB key instead of having to use a 2 key action for it.

Bearing in mind the other posts now since I have come on, does this mean you still would like my help with your setup? let me know, although I can't guarantee I'll be of any use to you, but I am always willing to help if I can :)

That said I am hoping that after reading a few of these posts that I am not making a bad mistake by buying these pieces of kit

I always ask after and never before :( mostly because I fear the replies :(

I have come to learn, even after a few post here that, the folks here at Vista forums are very friendly and helpful at the same time. This is one of the reason why I tend to try to help and/or mingle with the crowd, they make you feel right at home.

Yes, I would still love for you to help me with those settings even though I already finish the game, I might want to go at it again if I know how to do that. I tried setting a Macro but it didn't take it.

When I get home, I am going to try the new drivers, perhaps after installing them, the macro might take but I doubt that very much, I must be doing something wrong.

Well as soon as I get the stuff I'll read through the docs and set it up and then if I can get what you want to do working, you'll be the first to know :D of course there is always the chance that you find out how to do it before I do, and I hope you do :D I shan't get this mouse and keyboard until Thurs/Fri this week, hopefully Thursday.......just hope I am lucky enough, the chap ordered it today and hopefully it will arrive soon

I looked here and as far as the keyboard goes lots of games are listed as profiles, although at the bottom of the page it says that the Sideshow driver for 64-Bit Vista was removed, and that does'nt sound too good :(

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/441/3498&cl=us,en?osid=13

Still this is all new to me, and I never and still don't know what macros are, call me dense, but nobody knows everything

I have a Logic Rumblepad, bright red, a real flashy looking pad and that has something about Macro on it, but I never got to try it as I don't understand what it is........but in the end I gave up on it as the rumble did not work, so I now use the Xbox controller for windows which has perfect rumble :D off topic again, apologies

Well, it turns out that I am not that stupid after all... just going a little sinile is all :p

I do have those drivers installed, the thing is that it doesn't appear as if Vista accepted those drivers at all.

what do I mean? Well, usually, when you have generic drivers for any device, Vista will let you know that inmediately, right? Pnp Generic Monitor, vga video card, ps2 mouse.

As soon as you install the correct driver for your device, Vista changes the name and you are now happy, feeling warm an all fuzzy inside... Nvidia 8800GT video card, Logitech HID-Compliant Cordless Mouse, Realtek High Definition Audio, etc, etc.

Now, this is what I have under Keyboard:

HID- Keyboard Device
HID- Keyboard Device

Two, yes, you read it right...TWO instances of it under Keyboards.

why is that, how do I get rid of it and what am I doing wrong with the installation... if anything?

I had this before too, but I can only think that it is maybe down to the fact that at somepoint you like me had a keyboard installed and at sometime after that put a new one in and the Computer did'nt get rid of that entry? maybe? I am not 100% sure and whatever you do don't go and remove it after having read my reply, I am probably talking a load of old cobblers so pay no attention to me :o I am just thinking/talking out loud thats all

Believe me, I had uninstalled both instances to death but to no avail! :(

And to answer your question... NO, this KB has been with me since I built this rig and was using XP Pro with it. My Vista x64 built is very recent and I am still learning how to navigate on it. bottom line is... no other KB has been installed on it.

I have searched google but it appears I am the only one with this issue.

Well you are not the only one anymore, I now have the new gear and its all installed and in use, but I like you now have more than one HID Keyboard device listed in the Device Manager, infact I have 3 of them???

I don't get it and am not sure whether to delete 2 of them or leave alone

One other thing I would like to ask and that is where do I set the mouse to do single clicks only?

I have been through the G9 options and its not given there as an option to choose.

I also looked in the Control Panel under Mouse and there is nothing there either, so it must be hidden somewhere, either that or there is no option for it

Hope someone knows

Its ok Hyde is not around at the moment so you may call me Jekyll :)

You know this keyboard is awesome, when I connected it and booted, the whole thing just lit up, 3 options, not lit, dimly lit, brightly lit, and the LCD display is a treat to the eye......and the G9 Mouse is also wonderful, money for once very well spent :D

Jekyll and Hyde ;)
